At Apni Shala, we design and deliver intensive educational programmes aimed at life skills development in children aged 9 to 15 from low-income communities. We also collaborate with schools to educate teachers and parents so as to ensure an all-round effort to nurture intrapersonal and interpersonal skills in children.
One of the programmes that Apni Shala runs is called the Service Learning Programme, where they enable children to address social issues in their community. Thus far, children have address a variety of issues like alcoholism, waste management, eve teasing, women's education and water management. The children have researched and created solutions for these issues, and in certain cases have implemented the solutions as well. For example - children have conducted workshops in their communities to help illiterate women learn how to fill bank forms, learn how to sign and how to tally bills.
Through these processes of learning, children have shown marked improvement in their levels of self-confidence, initiative, teamwork, leadership and empathy. If, like me, you believe that apart from academics, it is essential for children to develop these skills, you can contribute with a donation.
- You'll thereafter be informed about how you helped made a difference
- You get the chance to interact with the children you supported and accompany them during their projects
- You will receive email updates on stories from the field about how the children worked on these very serious issues
