I have started running long distances in 2010 taking motivation from my daughter who was 2 years old at that time and since then have been running Marathons and ultramarathons distances. It has brought great transformation in me socially , professionally and on wellness front. This year I will be running Comrade Marathon of 87KM of treacherous terrain at Durban South Africa. I will attempt to complete Comrades for the second year in row. During my first Comrades (91KM) , I have practiced for approximately 1200+ KM between Feb-May 2018.
However , this year I am connecting my other passion with my running - philanthropy. Since last few years I have been helping girls child education sponsorship but without much of a scale. After comrades finish we could get 20 Bicycles as extended education sponsorship but it was not sufficient.
My friends (Yogesh, Annirudhha, Surendra, Vijay, Milind, Kishor, Nilesh) are sharing same passion and going to run Comrades-2019.
Comrades needs rigor in training and disciplined lifestyle, Keeping self motivated is the key here and our friends and family can motivate us and provide much needed energy by supporting our cause. You can help the cause by donating as little as 2Rs/KM of our practice run. Your financial help can reduce school drop out among the girl child in Sangli ( Western Maharashtra) area.
Cause: Support girls child education sponsorship through Aakar Foundation (आकार फौंडेशन). Aakar is working in the field of Psychology, Neuropsychology, Behavioral Sciences, Social psychology and Social problems. A registered public charitable organization working for the cause of mental health awareness in the society. This fundraiser is aiming to reduce school dropout rates of girl child specially in single parent scenario. Aakar has total 123 girls this year who need support to complete their education till 12th standard. Most of these girls from Sangli Miraj Kupwad area and goes to Municipal schools. In these school it is observed that school dropout rate is very high after 7th & 9th std. Sometimes single mothers find difficult to face social & economical problems. Though they have strong motivation for children's education they cannot provide for the same.Current fundraising is to support these girls in the form of educational help, counseling for career development & self sufficiency and achieve:
a. Reduce the school dropout rate
b. Prevent child marriage, child labor, delinquency.
c. Help children to complete their education.

General process of Aakar for sponsorship

Asses the need & situation through interview & home visit.
The Social worker will do the home visit once in six months to assess the progress & situation. The social worker will send 6 monthly progress report to sponsor. Also the case worker will try to make the family environment conducive for child development . She can act as a catalytic agent of change in family & help all members to achieve their goals.
