Help Rakhee And Family Fight Health & Financial Crisis

I am Ganesh and writing on behalf of our friend and society resident Rakhee Sudhir who is married to Sudhir Kumar with a lovely daughter and a son.

Rakhee is PhD Scholar @ Christ University, Bangalore, India, FDP IIM Indore, PGCHRM - XLRI. She has worked with SCTIMST, Leela International
Ltd (HR Head), Faculty at School of Communications & Management Studies (SCMS), Kochi, Faculty,Asian School of Business.
Both her kids are in school and her husband Sudhir is currently pursuing PhD @ XLRI

Rakhee has been going through an unfortunate medical crisis for the past few months.

She was admitted to Fortis hospital, Bangalore on 3rd May 2017 for a minor gall bladder stone issue and was to be discharged the next day. But fate had other plans and the minor issue escalated to pancreatitis, necrosis and other complications which led to many surgeries and extensive drug therapy.

Unfortunately the infection she is carrying today is drug resistant hence requires expensive antibiotics. Rakhee has been on ventilator for close to 2 months now. At present she is kept in a special ICU unit with the operated areas unstitched so that the infection can be treated. Its heart wrenching for anyone to even have a look at her while Rakhee has been going through this pain for the last 2 months.

The medical has touched 38 lakhs INR.  As of today, they do not have any financial options and they need additional 20 lacs (30,000 USD) to continue hospitalization till the infection is in control.

Sudhir is running pillar to post managing daily chores for their kids at the same time managing the hospital events. When I look at the man who has lost hope in Sudhir and watch the kids waiting for their school bus every morning, I feel helpless at the same time desperate to help this family.

I place my trust and hope with the 7 billion people on this planet for this family of four through this fundraiser.

Thank you for your contribution, wishes and prayers.

A note from Sudhir

At the outset let me convey my deepest gratitude for the amazing support and kindness from all the friends who supported us, through Milaap.

My beloved wife Rakhee battled bravely for 105 days under the medical care of the competent and incredible leadership of Dr. Aashish Shah and team @ Fortis Hospital.

I am also extremely indebted to all known and unknown contributors for financially supporting our family in these times of severe cataclysm. We are still trying to come to terms with the challenges which lie ahead. While the loss of my wife and mother for the children will remain as a concavity in our lives, we understand the need to move forward. It was a huge traumatizing experience for me during the last 4 months, nonetheless each day of our battle brought in to me unusual insights and allayed my outlook /perception on life. Perhaps it was in these days of reflection, swinging between emotions and reality, fears and hopes, desperation and expectations that gave me the courage to face the situation that I am undergoing today. Rakhee fought bravely for 105 days, in spite of all odds, the only solace being that hopefully she didn’t suffer the agony and pain, which I experienced.

Well let me not weave a long story, emotions have to be managed but reality has to be accepted and life goes on. My 105 days were inconceivable, and yet a huge learning, I suffered the pain, sensed it and internalized it. I do not find any vocabulary or terms to eloquently express the same. I also realized the ordeal of many people who were enduring similar situation which has prompted me to start an organisation with like-minded people to support others.

Finally I thank my flatmates, other friends from XLRI, IIMB etc., for their kindness and tremendous support.

Thank you Milaap for your support. Keep up the good work.

Regards
Sudhir

Dear Friends,

With profound grief and sorrow, we inform the sad demise of Rakhee Sudhir (w/o Sudhir Kumar) who left for her heavenly abode on 15th August 2017.

We pray for her soul to rest in peace. May God give strength to Sudhir and family to bear their irreparable loss. 💐

Will update the campaign with more details shortly with fund utilization and requirement. Allow us a week's time to help us gain some clarity in this regard.

Please keep the family in your prayers!

Dear Friends and Well Wishers,

Rakhee is bravely fighting it out.

However disconsolately, she is still on ventilator (since 9 June 2017). Her situation, fortunately is stable today (4th August 2017), but regrettably every 4th or 5th day, she spikes fever indicating that the MDR (multi drug resistant) Bacteria has not yet gone completely. This is the major challenge, which is being treated with multiple drug therapy & expensive antibiotics. All her vitals and other parameters are holding well, which is a good sign. The fight is about getting on top of the bacteria, which is the foremost worry.

Incidentally and maybe perhaps inappropriately, I am forced to indicate that the hospital bills are nearly 34 LACS (after Fortis hospital gave us a waiver of about 5 Lacs plus). The management was also considerate enough to accept our plea and has agreed to provide us subsidy on all the future bills, which means that only investigation, consumables and pharmacy will be charged, henceforth, and that too at a discounted rate. All the Doctors have completely waived their consulting charges.

However, the costs of antibiotics/etc, which I am sourcing directly from Pharma Company / stockists at discounted prices, have touched nearly 12 Lacs. Thus the total cost as of today is about 46 Lacs, plus other incidentals.
Above all now let me thank the tremendous support, encouragement and help from our wonderful flat-mates, her incredible XL batch-mates of Bangalore/Pan India, amazing XLRI Alumni (pan India & Global), Friends/well-wishers known & Unknown, her Ph.D colleagues of Christ University, Her and my former students of ASB,SCMS,IMK,DCSMAT, Former workmates ASB,SCMS,IIMB, my Loyola batch mates, my magnificent XLRI EFPM Batch-mates and the list is endless.... for their kindness and generosity.

I am purposefully avoiding the mentioning names of some astounding friends who have taken the extra effort, time and consideration for helping us in tiding over this huge crisis.

Let me also mention that many of the friends again both known and unknown are not only merely contributing, but also periodically calling up and checking on her Status, offering prayers, organizing special prayers for Rakhee, and offering me a huge backing.

I am greatly indebted to all and sincerely thank everyone.

Regards
Sudhir
