Ushi, a rescued one an half year old female gsd has a very sad story to tell. She was with a foreign national right from her puppy days. Being a very playful adorable darling was a very very special child for the owner. Special child because he very well knew that USHI is deprived of vision. She can barely see few cms distance Inspite of this the owner never abandoned nor did he ever ill treat her. He took every possible measure to treat her. She was under the treatment of vet Dr kiran right from the beginning.
But destiny had some other plans and life took a major turn for ushi. The owner suddenly left for heavenly abode due to cardiac arrest and being a foreign national no one else was there in family here in India to look after her. She was disturbed a lot but fortunately the house help who was working for the owner, took care of her for quiet sometime but even she had to call it quits as it was getting difficult for her to handle cos of maintenance cost and social issues.
Now being rescued or rather the lady has willingly given the dog in my custody for the future course of medications. I would like to add that she was brave and compassionate enough of whatever little she could do for USHI she did without any hesitation.
After taking her custody she was taken for a medical checkup to Dr Swaminath Dhawale, kharghar where upon examining he diagnosed her with dermoid cyst in both eyes possibly from birth.
Dermoid is a tissue or extra follicles of hair which grows on the sclera(white part) and cornea of the eye which hampers vision and to treat, involves surgery.
On further investigations of blood as being very lean it was found out that her Creatinine level was high.
The kidney part is now taken care off and is treated but the vision impairment has to be solved.
Further investigations at Happy Tails, deonar where she was examined for her eyes and further line of treatment, she was diagnosed with optic disc atrophy along with dermoids.
In optic disc atrophy, the disc which is responsible for the vision has started degenerating or getting smaller in size and it cannot be treated but can be preserved from further degeneration by medication
Now she has to operated on both the eyes for dermoids removal which will help improve her vision not fully but to some extent. The operation will be done in Blue cross vet clinic in kharghar by Dr Nikita.
The cost and post operative treatment will cost @ Rs. 10000 The surgery cost will not be more than Rs 4000.00 but post operative treatment and foster will be a cost. The foster charges will come @ Rs. 300 a day and the foster has to be a minimum 15 days as she needs a good personal care and an atmosphere like home.
