We are fundraising to provide excellent education for under-privilege children

Why am I fundraising?

I believe that every child can and must attain an excellent education. I want to bridge the immense gaps my children face, putting my students on a fundamentally different life path. I am undergoing a Fellowship Program with Teach for Inda where I have got this opportunity to impact the life of amazingly wonderful and potential 75 kids from the slums of Govandi, Mumbai. I teach in a municipal school in Govandi. I believe with quality education these kids will further create a ripple towards the movement I am part of and one day we will attain our vision of excellent education for every child in India.

What do I plan to do with the funds?

As a part of our fellowship with Teach for India since the last one and a half years, I and Somdatta Karak have been actively involved in teaching and developing 70 under-privileged kids studying in class VII at Deonar Colony Municipal School, Govandi, Mumbai.

While Teach for India provides us with resources sufficient for the basic school facilities it becomes imperative we take an extra effort to give our students an exposure to the other realms of life. This is going to be these students' last year in this school and with TFI.

Hence, both Somdatta and I have decided to raise resources for our class.

The main events for which we need to raise money for our students are:

1. Star gazing event with Khagol Mandal, Mumbai for a whole night inclusive of dinner, tea and snacks.

2. Participation of the girls in Annual Football Tournament, organized by Teach for India.

3. Student-led science exhibition at the end of the academic year.

The resources gathered will help us to provide an excellent education to our students.

Help us to reach this goal by donating for the cause.

Our kids are a part of the Collaborative Undergraduate Biology Education program at Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE-TIFR). They use simple model organisms like fruitfly, mosquitoes and Daphnia and are pursuing very interesting questions. This has grown their questioning abilities, let them grow more observant about their surroundings, and meet peers not only from the other schools but also colleges in Mumbai, who are a part of the CUBE program.

The students practise football everyday for 1.5 hours after school everyday for their upcoming inter-school football tournament, Just for Kicks.

One of our students is selected for the second round of National Science Olympiad.

Our students got a chance to go for an overnight star gazing session organized by Khagol Mandal. Watching the constellations, using a telescope for the first time to watch Andromeda, Jupiter with 4 of its satellites, (our) moon and many other celestial objects and having discussions with the Khagol Mandal team there to get many of their questions of astronomy solved, surely is going to be an experience that will stay with them all their lifetime!
