What is ICS?

International Citizen Service (ICS) is an international volunteering programme which provide youth across the globe an opportunity to engage with social and development issues, thereby effectively contribute in local communities and develop personal skills. It is funded by UK government’s Department of International  Development and has been  presently running in almost thirty underdeveloped and developing countries like Ghana, Bangladesh, South Africa so on and so forth. In India, the ICS programme has been brought  in by PRAVAH.
PRAVAH is a NGO that works with the youth in India. It attempts at creating a new space of experiential learning  and self-exploration for youth. It does so by providing youth with an opportunity to interact and engage in development works in rural India. Pravah-ICS is the collaboration between the two to conduct the ICS programme in India.

•We are a team of thirty volunteers; 15 from UK and 15 from India. The host country is India.

•The host community is based at Hardha district of Madhya Pradesh in India.

•The volunteers will be staying in the ‘host homes’ in different villages across Hardha District for three months and would be working in different development projects. The themes of these development projects includes education, health, governance, gender and caste discrimination, environment, so on and so forth.

•Synergy Sansthanis an organization that has been working in these villages of Hardha for past 20 years. The ICS volunteers will be working under the mentorship ofSynergy Sansthan as it has a better understanding of the host community and its needs.
