Life was all well for Balaji A, a native of Melpulidiyur, Changam Taluk in Tiruvannamalai district, until July. The fresh engineering grad was happy that he would be able to help his father, the sole breadwinner of the family. His father, Anandan is in a clerical job in the Judicial Magistrate Court, Polur and mother, a homemaker. While everything was normal in his life, out of blue, he fell sick and consulted a local doctor with excessive tiredness and fatigue, generalised body pain and fever for two days. However, what seemed to be a simple complication, on conducting medical tests at Sri Ramachandra Medical Centre (SRMC), it revealed that the 21-year-old lad has been diagnosed to have early T cell precursor acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ETP-ALL), in simpler terms, blood cancer. Following which, the family was suggested to consult the doctors at Christian Medical College, Vellore. Since three months, a shattered Balaji, is struggling for life at the hospital. He has undergone the first course of chemotherapy treatment and the second course is under way. The doctors have suggested Balaji to undergo allogenic peripheral blood stem cell transplantation with human leukocyte antigen (HLA) antigen within 20 days. The total treatment is estimated to be Rs 35,00,000. The hapless boy, who was beaming with energy and enthusiasm to help his father is now broken and seeks donation from kind-hearted souls. The medical reports are attached with the request.
