Peek A Book

Hi All ,

I am Sanjana Sunder, out of Chennai (India) studying in Grade XI. I am reaching out to you all to help me accomplish a passionate cause that is close to my heart.

My introduction to books was at a fairly young age and ever since I got enchanted by them. Books and the written word have played an important role in shaping my life. I had a feeling that I belonged nowhere but when I read those stories through the world of books, the magical pieces of writing transformed me into those realities making me feel alive.

Being a bookworm, the urge to spread this habit to kids who have little access to such adventure became important to me. So, to develop the same passion amongst those who are less fortunate and open their world of imagination, this initiative has been started.

Defining Moment
Last year while volunteering at an orphanage, I was rudely awakened to the fact that access to books and knowledge, that I take for granted, was not available to kids in that orphanage.  This thought motivated me to help those who are not privileged.

What is this initiative ?
This initiative would like to make a change in this world by providing books to those who have been deprived of this pleasure due to their unfortunate circumstances.

Everyone has a right to read and I strongly believe that those of us who are like minded coming together can make a difference.

Personally, I am donating my set of books to start a small library at an orphanage and the children are studying at a local Government School.

What will the funds be used for ?
The funds that are generated would be used in setting up a library with both fiction and non-fiction books as well as in various languages for the children to read and enjoy!

The funds will be used to buy books as well some basic infrastructure such as bookshelves etc., to organize the books for the schools/orphanages which have agreed to participate in this initiative. In addition, if you would like to donate children's books and bookshelves, please let me know

I would like to request all your help to expand this initiative to other schools and orphanages as well.

Thank you,
Sanjana

28th November 2016
On Saturday (11/26/2016), I visited the Orphanage VRUKSHAM FOUNDATION (www.vruksham.org) located at Annanur-Avadi, Chennai to set up their library.

The Orphanage did not have one and when I requested they had agreed to have one set up for the kids.
When I entered, I saw the children over there. They were young, bubbly and between the ages of five to ten. I have always been possessive of my books, but for the first time I was willing to let go of all of them. The children were filled with glee, at the sight of so many books. I gave about eighty books to the children and all of these I had with me from when I was a toddler. I hope that these books will inspire the children to become avid readers in the future.
I read a story for these kids and they were so engrossed they were literally jostling around me to hear the story. I was moved. This incident touched my heart and I was actually grateful and happy to give away my prized possessions.
