“It was only few months ago that he was running around in the house with his sister and now it seems like ages that he has even got up from his bed.  He still doesn’t know about his cancer and  smiles through all the pain that he is going through. Every morning he tells me ,' Daddy when can I go to school? I can't miss anymore classes or else I won't be able to top the class again.' I don't know what to tell him. I know my son is a fighter but if we can't arrange funds for his transplant in 15 days, we will lose him forever.” - Vinod Kumar, father of Parth.

Recurrent fevers had forced the parents to take Parth to the doctor

Everything was fine for Parth and his family till few months ago when he started having recurrent fevers. In the month of May, he was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. It is a form of blood cancer that affects the bone marrow and has a worsening impact on the white blood cells. The bone marrow cells don't mature the way they're supposed to. These immature cells, often called blast cells, keep building up.

“He just complained of fever and body ache. We had no idea that something so serious is in store for our little son. The day the test results were to be declared I could not muster up the courage to go to the hospital. Till my husband came back, I kept sitting in front of the prayer room hoping against all odds that the reports would be fine. I broke down completely when I heard that Parth has cancer. It just felt so unfair.” - Neeru, mother.

The chemotherapy has taken a toll on little Parth

Immediately after he was diagnosed with cancer, Parth has been undergoing chemotherapy and it has started affecting him adversely now. Some days the pain is so horrible that he curls up in his bed and doesn't let anyone touch him. Only an urgent bone marrow transplant can now save Parth.

“He has severe stomach pain and cannot eat anything at all during the sessions. He throws up anything he eats. He runs a high temperature and is absolutely inconsolable during these times. Nothing we do calms him down. I hold him close and try very hard to soothe him but in vain.” - Neeru.

Little Parth when he was healthy

The parents are desperate to save their little son but cannot afford the huge costs of the treatment

Parth’s treatment has cost a lot till now and Vinod being the only earning member of the family is no longer to support his son’s treatment any longer.

“I have already spent about 10 lakhs on his treatment. The transplant requires about 20 lakhs and I am in no condition to arrange for so much money. I can’t tell how helpless it makes me feel as I see my son suffering and am unable to do anything. The doctors have told that Parth has great chances of getting better after this transplant, my daughter is the matched donor - the only constraint is that of money.” - Vinod.
