As you are aware, Ockhi, a severe cyclone that passed through the Arabian peninsula in Kanyakumari district and southern Kerala in India on November 29th and 30th, 2017, had shattered several traditional fishing villages (including my village Vallavilai) in the coastal region with high devastating intensity.
The devastation of destruction caused to to fishing vessels and gear along with the historically high loss of life (including my cousin and a friend) and property has left thousands of fishermen in these villages, whole only livelihood is fishing, into starvation. And, many of these families, having lost their only bread-winner has left these families into starvation, in addition to having to grieve for their beloved ones to mother sea.
There are many families affected in my village.
Stats of my village is below:
|Total Boat Missing (including sunk)||6|
|Fishermen died(in-front of fellow fishermen in mid sea)||3|
|Fishermen Missing (My Village)||33|
|Other village fishermen who went for fishing in my village boats missing||37|
|Family Members of Missing People Who needs support (My village only)||67|
With the help of my village people and employees, we have decided to support the families of victims by contributing some fund as we can. I am also collecting funds from my known sources and friends to support the families of victims.
Your generous contributions will go a long way in bringing food to the table of these families who are on the verge of starvation after losing their dear ones in the cyclone in the ocean. Your contributions will be 100% used to help and support the families of the victims in my village.
