Nireekshana means "Hope." True to its name, this non-profit, day school is a beacon of hope to 35 intellectually challenged kids coming from economically low income groups in Bangalore, India.

Every morning, a school bus picks up these children from four slums and transports them to school.  While at school, these kids receive a basic education, self help skills and nutritious food.  Unfortunately, the bus that has transported the children for the past 13 years has broken down and needs to be replaced.

There are very few resources for intellectually challenged children like these in India, especially when their parents have low incomes.  Without the bus to transport them, these children have no other way to get to school.  Therefore, we are asking everyone to please consider making a donation, however small, to this very worthy cause.

Nireekshana was founded by a dear friend of my mother, Mrs. Daya Martin, who worked there until her dying day.  I was fortunate enough to visit Nireekshana during the Holidays, and their nativity scene was the most heartwarming one that I've ever seen.  I have attached some images to give you a better idea of who the children are who you have an opportunity to help.

Personally, I cannot think of a better way to honor my mother than to help the school her friend founded at their time of need. Thank you for reading this story and for your contribution.

Warmly,
Sandhya
