A land of opportunities.
A place where technology and tradition have a beautiful amalgamation.
A city blessed with salubrious climate.
A paradise for nature lovers.
An encouraging start-up culture.
A treat to food and drink lovers.
So on and so forth…
Wondering why we’ve not said a word about the serpentine traffic, the toxic lakes, the pothole-ridden roads, the inglorious infrastructure, piling garbage, etc.?
Because we still believe in Bengaluru – the home, the emotion, the dream of our fabled founder Kempegowda. And it is with this belief that Namma Bengaluru Foundation (NBF) has, since 2009, worked tirelessly and selflessly to save, protect and reclaim our city. Our vision to make Bengaluru better is not just ours. It’s a shared vision of all those Bengalureans, who yearn for the comfort of their ‘home’.
These Bengalureans have dedicated their lives to rescue our city from the clutches of death. They are the true change makers, who away from the glitz and glamour, silently make the difference. Their undying spirit is contagious and we at NBF firmly believe that such remarkable citizens deserve recognition, honour and a strong platform to inspire future revolutionaries. Hence, we initiated the NAMMA BENGALURU AWARDS, which has been a rostrum for the uncountable catalysts of change to motivate others to wake up to our city’s SOS call.
Unsung heroes are our true heroes
Every year Namma Bengaluru Awards honours six outstanding citizens (Government Official, Citizen Individual, Social Entrepreneur, Media Individual, Rising Star and Namma Bengalurean of the Year), who are committed, courageous and resolute in their mission to regain our city’s misplaced magnificence.
These unstoppable citizens hail from different walks of life and we’ve handed over the responsibility to identify such precious gems to the people themselves. The citizen nominates his/her unsung hero and our esteemed jury identifies those leaving a lasting impact – an impact that will be the driving force for a much-needed change.
Till date, Namma Bengaluru Awards has celebrated the achievements of close to 80 unsung heroes and we hope to continue recognizing the efforts of those who have dedicated their lives towards serving the city and its people.
Here's a quick look at some of our past winners:
Geetha Menon, Citizen Individual of the Year 2016

A Deccan Herald reporter who brought gross injustices to light. From reclaiming the Chikka Kallasandra and Venkatnarayana Kere lakes to the Hanumagiri Hill (mysteriously declared a pasture land) to the encroached Thurahalli Forest, he has fought tirelessly for the city's land.

Here’s where you become an unsung hero
As much as we take pride in being a celebrated platform, for not just honouring true heroes, but also being the starting point for spirited change makers, the truth is - we will be able to continue this journey only if YOU – the true Bengalurean – lends valuable support to the Namma Bengaluru Awards.
We hope to set up a corpus fund of Rs 20 lakh – money that we will need to sustain our effort to honour tomorrow’s leaders, thinkers and champions. Your generous contribution will be parked unutilized and we will achieve our mission through the interest/dividend accrued.
Your one-time-contribution can help us applaud and salute Bengaluru’s true heroes for a LIFETIME.
Remembering the great statesman Winston Churchill who once said, “We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.”
So, wake up to Bengaluru’s SOS call NOW!
