Mental Health Education to #Endthestigma
In rural India, many with Mental Illness use traditional faith healing, and prayers to treat them or try to protect them by shielding them from the community. We, at The MINDS Foundation are working to change perceptions of mental health by providing mental health education in villages throughout rural India. First and foremost, we train local citizens as community mental health workers to assist in delivering our programming and sustaining our efforts long-term. We've already educated a region consisting of over 80 villages (100,000 citizens) in Gujarat. Our programs to-date have consisted of mental health education in communities as well as targeted primary rural schools. In 2016, alone we provided mental health education to over 3,200 schoolchildren and over 150 teachers.During our education workshops, we also identify those in need of medical attention, provide counseling, and link them up with cost-effective clinical resources.
Will you help us end the stigma by providing support to bring mental health education to rural India?
