    Vignesh Singh

    from Hyderabad, Telangana

Baby Vignesh has intestinal lymphangiectasia which causes constant diarrhoea in his body. He has not been able to retain any food he's eaten till now.  His father Roshan is an auto driver and his mother Kalpana is a housewife. They have spent all their savings and even borrowed to keep Vignesh alive till now. They need urgent financial help to maintain baby Vignesh's health till he is able to have an intestinal transplant.

This 16-month-old has suffered diarrhoea all his life
“When he was born, he was all right for 15 days. After that his loose-motions began. It has not stopped since then. Anything we feed him is either vomited out or passed out in stools. Every hospital we went to said we should give up, but how can we do that? As his parents we have to do everything we can,” says Kalpana.

Kalpana refused to give up and told her husband that they should not be scared. She made sure Vignesh always had medical attentions and reached out to everyone who could help. “We used up everything for Vignesh's treatment. All our savings, both our parents' saving and all my wedding gifts are gone,” Kalpana says without any regret in her voice.

Roshan makes about Rs 8,000-9,000 per month depending on how many customers he gets. With that limited income, they have spent Rs 9 lakhs on keeping Vignesh alive in the last one and a half years. He has had to be hospitalised for months – sometimes in the Intensive Care Unit.

It took over a year for the doctors to find out what was wrong with Vignesh
Babies grow very fast and often through illnesses but that has not been true for Vignesh. He is a one-year-old who is still too weak to walk. His constant diarrhoea and vomiting has made him very weak. His bad health has prevented him from growing up like a normal child. But he finally now has a chance at growing up like a normal child.

His illness was diagnosed with an endoscopy. Even after diagnosis, it took the parents four months to find a doctor who told them he could perform a surgery that could cure the baby. For the first time in years, there is a chance for Vignesh.

“I told my husband – no matter what we will save him. It is what he deserves after so much pain,” says Kalpana. She has asked everyone in her community to help and her sincere desire to save her son has gathered some support. The doctor has decided to subsidise treatment, and lawyer Santosh Singh, is helping her apply to various schemes that might give her some aid.

"It is very difficult for them because they are illiterate and don't know what they should do or who they should talk to. So I felt that I should step in and help out because the mother is really desperate to save her child," Santosh says.

With her determination, Kalpana has moved obstacles out of her way and created a chance for her son. With your help, she can actually save him and give him the healthy childhood he deserves. Contribute for Vignesh's surgery now.
