Dear Supporters,

I am Sudhakar, a Milaap Open fellow in Bengaluru. I met Ramya and her team of volunteers at Bridgin on 23rd July, Saturday, at Maria Niketan High School, St. Thomas Town. Volunteers at Bridgin are typically college-going students and young working professionals. They spare the free time they have on weekends to teach and spend time with children at multiple institutions spread across the city.

The children in these institutions are primarily from the underprivileged sections of the society, needing more attention for them to be on par with students from private schools.
- Ashraya Children's Home, Indiranagar center
- Ashraya Children’s Home, Shivajinagar center
- St Mary's Boys Home, St. Thomas Town
- Model Govt School, Lingarajapuram
- Sanmarg Central School, JP Nagar
- Christ the King School, Malleswaram

Ramya, the founder of Bridgin, is an engineering graduate from HKBK College of Engineering, Bengaluru. She now works with IPSoft. Bridgin started out from St. Mary’s Orphanage. She started out by teaching students Mathematics to 3 - 7 pm daily, when she was a volunteer with MAD (

Thanks to her efforts, the number of students of the school who passed in the subject quickly rose to 100%. This made the management to entrust her with teaching of more subjects such as English and Science. With the amount of effort slowly increasing, she needed to reach out to her network of friends to help her with the initiative. The team of volunteers started growing with references and is now at a size of 25.

With the size of the team expanding, Ramya thought that the programme had to be structured much more. “With focus only on the subjects being taught at schools, children don’t really get the opportunity of all round development. That’s when we came up with an exhaustive Life Programme for students”. The modules that Bridgin developed to ensure the same were as follows:
  1. Imparting life skills
  2. Citizenship skills
  3. Career awareness
  4. Extra curricular activities
  5. School curriculum

They have been able to do this by conducting group activities in the play area cum library, which Bridgin helped St. Mary’s Boy’s Home in building. They have also involved the boys in fine arts. A Theatre workshop was organized for children. They had to demonstrate their learnings by performing a play at Rangasthala Auditorium (MG Road), which they performed brilliantly. Career workshops are also organized at various centres, so that students are exposed to opportunities beyond Medicine and Engineering. Sportsmen such as football players and kabaddi players have also been invited to speak at these events.

With the growing number of institutions, Bridgin is expanding the volunteer team slowly. They are also in look out for institutions that need the kind of support they are providing. The 400+ students benefiting from Bridgin’s involvement are very lucky indeed to have the support of the volunteers.

Please feel free to visit : or their facebook page to know more about their initiatives.

I reached the school when the classes were getting over.. My only mistake was that I had a camera phone in my hand…

And then all hell broke loose…

Only a movie can get them to remain quiet… Fans of Rajnikanth should learn how to watch his movies with respect from these children‪!
