Help My Mother Alka To Fight Coma

Last year's Christmas turned tragic for my family. My mother (Mrs Alka Sachan) was visiting my cousin in Mumbai who is hospitalized since October 2016 for a rare disease Meningitis TB. My cousins along with my mother and uncle wanted to pray for her good health. On December 25 of last year enroute to Shirdi their car met with an accident near Sinnerghat Nasik. In the accident my cousin brother Shridhar Sachan succumbed to his injuries on the spot while my uncle had multiple fractures. My Mother suffered serious injuries to her head and has been in coma since then.

She had multiple blood clots in her brain. The doctors took out as much of the clots(Decompressive craniectomy) as they could without impacting her brain too much. For this they took out a part of the right side of her skull. She will need to undergo one more surgery for her skull when she recovers. Her left body is in a state of paralysis and she has been in coma ever since. Her condition is improving at a very slow rate and it might take her up to 6 months to completely recover.

She is a very caring lady who is loved among our friends and family. My cousin sister's condition left her concerned and so she came to Mumbai on December 11 to stay with her for some time. I admire her for all the resilience and courage she shows at times like these. We value her so much and have been trying our best to provide proper care for her.

She is in ICU ward 217 of Terna Shahyadri Hospital Nerul West since Dec 25 and her daily expenses are around 35-45000. According to Dr recovery of my mother would be very slow and gradual and she will be required to stay in hospital for longer period. Her medical expenses are mounting day by day which we are finding very difficult to afford. We are a lower middle class family. My father works with a private firm and has limited resources.

I request everyone to extend what ever possible financial assistance to help us at this difficult time. Your support during this extremely tough time is appreciated so much. All donations will be used in the hope of giving her the best possible future, and the greatest chance of recovery.

For any other details please reach me directly. I would be indebted and grateful for the rest of my life.

Dear well-wishers,

My Mom as you all know had been admitted in hospital for the past 7 months. On 18 July she was discharged from RML hospital, after which we arranged for her care to be done at home. On 4th of August she was admitted to Yashoda Hospital due to extreme fever and other complications. Her condition hadn't stabilized after she had been infected with ventriculitis. But she was a fighter who wouldn't just accept things as they were. She lasted through such extreme discomfort and suffering for 8 months, but eventually it was time for her to part with us. Sadly on 14th of August her journey came to an end. A wife, a mother, a sister, a woman no more. May her souls rest in peace.

The funds raised so far, have already been utilised for her treatment and to settle the remaining hospital bills.
Thank you all for the support.

Dear Donors,

I am Radhika, a fellow placed in Mumbai. Here is an update on Mrs. Alka Sachan.

I spoke to Anshul, the younger son of Mrs. Alka. He informed me that Mrs. Alka has been in the ICU right from the time she got admitted in Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital. Her body temperature hasn’t been stable. Due to high fever (103-104) and high level of blood sugar – more than 300 – she is on high doses of insulin, 40 units per day. In the last week of February, she had undergone angioplasty to place the skull back. As per the doctors, if her blood sugar comes under control, they may consider a stent surgery. Albeit if her condition improves, the surgery may not be required.

Mrs. Alka’s husband and elder son have resumed their work. Anshul, on the other hand, has put his last exam of CA on hold as he takes care of his mother and devotes maximum time of the day looking after her.

In the last three months, the family has spent roughly around INR 12,50,000 on her treatment. The ambulance charges incurred were INR 100,000 to shift her from Mumbai to Delhi. By God’s grace and prayers of all her loved ones, she got admission at RML, one of the best government hospitals. Her treatment expense at RML ranges between INR 20,000 – 30,000 a month.

A heartfelt thank you to all for supporting her in this tough journey. Keep her in your prayers and wish for her speedy recovery!

Dear supporters,

My mother Alka has been shifted to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital New Delhi on 2nd Feb. We brought her from Navi Mumbai in a cardiac ambulance by road. During the journey she contracted infection for which she is being treated but as a precautionary measure she has been ventilated. Doctors have changed her conversions medicines as they kept her drowsy all the time. She will be monitored for the next few days to stabilize her condition in preparation for surgery. The doctors will be operating on her and place the portion of skull back to its original place when she gets stable. Also on 4th Feb she opened her eyes and started blinking them which was done for the first time. This also is a good sign and we are hopeful that from here on, her condition will improve at a better rate.

Please continue to share this page as much as you can. It's you who have made this possible. We are all grateful for your love and support.
