INTRODUCTION
The existence of life without soil and water is impossible. While soil helps us in vegetation, it contains vast resources of water. Majority of us have played in soil in our childhood. The main motive behind our organization, Matti-Pani is to foster one’s bonds with our soil. Meanwhile our focus will also be towards increasing awareness about water conservation.
We have identified remote villages that are far away from ‘modernization’. These places emanate the feeling of a rich traditional and cultural heritage that is struggling to survive in the present era. Villages even at present maintain and balance the eco-system tremendously. However villages too are on the verge of losing their real quality with the wide influence of urban modernization− that has led us to the use of pesticides and insecticides on crops that creates a deficiency in its quality.
The ever increasing use of insecticides and pesticides has resulted in the decrease of soil fertility. Recent years have opened our eyes to the demerits of these inorganic fertilizers, that include polluting of our precious water resources, weaker immune system─ making humans prone to diseases, among many other drawbacks.
Maati-Pani is a unique initiative to not only preserve struggling village environment but also encourage and provide interested group of locals to use and consume organic food grains including wheat, rice, pulses and many other vegetables. We are not merely confined to ‘organic farming; we will also be adding many other features for interested locals like rural handicraft work and the growing of herbs for curing  various diseases.

OVERVIEW
1,000 plus farmers with an average of 60 acres of land holding have joined hands with us. Majority of these farmers are unable to meet their daily ends on daily basis. With passing generations their land holdings have decreased and today they are unable to cultivate their own fields due to no or less chances of profit. These farmers often work as daily labourers in fields of rich farmers and under difficult circumstances commit suicide after finding themselves trapped in financial debts.
We are trying to sell their products directly to consumers so that prevailing concept of ‘middle men’ is eliminated sending the complete profit to the farmers. Such activity would facilitate their lives to great extent. Whole variety of food grains from wheat, rice, pulses, spices, jaggery and many other similar edibles will be grown organically by the farmers. Many other snacks like poppadam (pappad), kachri, namkeen, chips, pickle (achar) and others will be prepared by women, giving them an opportunity to contribute to the earnings on a regular basis.
MISSION
We are continuously working hard to provide our wide variety of products to our value-supporters by bridging the gap between anna-data (farmer) and the consumer. With this concept we have initiated ‘Village Tourism’, that is a unique platform for both farmers and consumers to interact and understand the process of the cultivation of crops and other such edibles prepared by the farmers in their backyards.
To challenge the existing social taboos including caste, creed and several other similar barriers, our mission is to prepare a school for village children where they can decide what to learn in order to fulfil their dreams. Special training will be imparted to these students so that they can avail the opportunity to use their traditional skills to uplift their economic conditions along with learning new skills. Presently, we are trying to help a handful of students to prepare for various competitive examinations.
Reading long books in a fast-paced world is time consuming and expensive, so we have prepared a group of enthusiastic people who love to travel as they believe in saying “travelling is a better way of learning than reading books”. This enthusiastic group of people, are ready to explore Mother Nature and places of historical relevance. The motive behind visiting such places is to let group members learn more about traditions, cultures, languages, climate and many other things from the local people. This group is ever expanding and we welcome people to associate with us.
WOMEN EMPOWERMENT
Tremendous efforts are presently been undertaken by Matti-Paani to improve the lives of women in villages. In order to increase their efficiency and develop their skills, numerous training programs are being carried out where interested women can hone their skills and improve their understanding regarding the pre-existing rights and laws for them, offered by the Indian constitution. Various well known professionals and eminent personalities from various walks of life, conduct these training sessions designed to bring about the best from these women.
CHARITY
We are also planning a girl school in the villages where special focus will be imparted to those girl students who were forced to drop-out from their studies midway. 27 such girl students have been identified and enrolled for this school while the search for similar students is in full swing. We are in talks with a few renowned schools near these villages so that these students can appear in upcoming examinations without hassle. Special coaching classes will be given to students who are unable to attend classes on daily basis due to poor financial conditions.
SPONSOR A GIRL CHILD
While we are trying our best to expand our horizon for the underprivileged female children, we also provide the opportunity to our privileged supporters to interact with such students and sponsor them in their education. It includes─ paying a fee for a child, arranging school dresses for them or taking the responsibility of one-day meal.
Our efforts is to foster relationship with underprivileged children and if you want to sponsor them,  then please take out time from your busy schedule and come to our place and interact with such children to see how you can help them. Every single penny will be used in a correct manner. We assure you that your decision to interact with these children and visit our villages will become a cherished memory.
We have chosen a one-acre lush green land, where we have a traditional mud houses (guest house) with all basic facilities for the visitors.
Presently we are educating these students at the same spot. Visitors can stay back and interact with the students meanwhile; we will try to bring you closer to the village hospitality including an all organic food menu. All dishes will be prepared in traditional (desi) style that will surely increase your appetite and rejuvenate your taste buds!
BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION
Birthday is a special occasion for most of us but unfortunately majority of village children don’t know the meaning of birthdays. Sponsors can celebrate their birthdays with them which will contribute to bring a smile and an unforgettable experience in their life.
HELP WITHOUT MONEY
We have a dedicated group of people who are eagerly looking forward to the opportunity to travel and explore various parts of the country. Mountains, lakes, jungles, deserts and other similar places with historical and religious relevance await these travel enthusiasts. You too can become part of this group which we call as Ghoomakar Toli!
VILLAGE MARKET
A village is the purest form of market where everything is brought for sale directly from the fields. Refreshing taste from fresh vegetables and other edibles that you relished in your childhood days will be a walk down the memory lane. Unpolished pulses prepared in traditional style, smell of pickles prepared in pure mustard oil are still the highlights of the village market. Village markets are known for zero adulteration. By purchasing items from village market you are avoiding several health hazards caused due to high level of adulteration in modern markets and multi-story mall goods. Purchase unadulterated items, especially edibles from village market and help farmers too.
OUR PLANS
One Day ‘Farmer’ Challenge
As we are trying to re-establish the lost link between farmers and consumers by provide a unique platform to our valued supporters to become a farer for a day. Such platforms seem necessary to boost relations between the farmers and the consumers. It will also give vital inputs to consumers about the hardships of taking up the challenge of farming under the supervision of real farmers. It is not mandatory for our supporters, and is open for interested volunteers only. Such activities will increase your knowledge about agriculture, and in return, you can help the farmer for at least a day by performing his tasks.
OUR FIELD, YOUR YIELD
Another golden opportunity awaits those supporters who want to take up agriculture as a profession but are unable to do so− due to the lack of land holdings. Such volunteers can take up any land holding (minimum of 1 bigha) on rent for a maximum period of six months and can cultivate crops. While the farmer who is the actual owner of that field will help you in cultivation of your crops and in return you will get ¼ portion of the total crop yield as a reward for your hard work. Watering your own crop is life time experience and you can watch them grow and mature in front of your eyes.
We will be more than happy if this initiative can bring back locals who have migrated to urban areas for better job opportunities back to their homes with a potential of better socio-economic conditions.
