Little Moppet Heart Foundation was started by Dr. Gopi Nallaiyan, M.s, M.Ch, DNB on 13th November 2016.
Vision:
To remove the suffering of children with congenital heart diseases by identifying them and creating awareness about the challenges faced in terms of medical assistance and support to the local communities.
To ensure each of us lends a helping hand to make a difference in the life of every suffering child by providing free treatment and establishing an awareness centre
Mission:
To provide financial and medical support to every needy child, in order to lead a normal life in this beautiful world of ours.
Professional doctor to a NGO life: An attempt to change the inevitable fate of congenital heart disease
In 2015, Dr. Gopi met a sweet, bright 6-year old girl with an inevitable fate – an early death.
The saddest part was that though she’d been diagnosed with congenital heart disease when she was 6 months, her parents didn’t know where to go, what to do or who to approach. As a result, by the time she celebrated her 6th birthday and came to Dr.Gopi, her condition was inoperable.
Seeing so many patients like this little girl while being a father to two little children of his own, he knew he had to do something.
It wasn’t an easy decision to quit a well-paying job and start an NGO, but he had to stop feeling helpless and standing by watching the lives of these bright, beautiful children being snuffed out by Congenital Heart Disease (CHD).
Reaching out to the children in the lower socio-economic strata who need CHD diagnosis and treatment is vital because their families are daily wage labourers who can barely afford to eat a full meal a day. They need help because their families cannot afford to lose several working days hunting for hospitals and searching for free treatment. When free treatment isn’t available, the children’s lives are left to fate and their inevitable passing away is accepted.
We need to change this morbid state of affairs and give children from the lower economic strata an equal chance to live a long and healthy life.
Camps conducted:
Little Moppet Heart Foundation has conducting free medical camps for children to screen congenital heart disease at various places.
- Since its inception we have conducted 10 camps at Madurai, Theni, Dindigul, Paramakudi, Kovilpatti, Tuticorin, and Suryapet,Telagana.
- Total number of children screened in the camps is around 10,000.
- 40 children were successfully operated through our foundation.
We are utilizing the funds that are collected for patients Pre operative, Surgery and Post operative care.
