When Lisa was born six years ago, my wife, Priya and me were overjoyed with the blessing we received. She brought so much joy into our lives that we decided to celebrate her birthday every year by sharing this joy with the communities around us.
Lisa's first birthday was celebrated to bring solar lighting to families in the north eastern state of Manipur, India.
Lisa's first birthday was celebrated to bring solar lighting to families in the north eastern state of Manipur, India.
On her 2nd birthday, we decided to contribute on her behalf for a remarkable initiative called “Dazin” which aims to tackle the global problem of deadly smoke from open cooking fires killing 491 people every hour. With that, our daughter also became the youngest supporter and contributor to Dazin’s campaign.
On her third birthday,we raised funds to support 8 girl students of a non profit called Kritagyata Trust ensuring that they can be educated on larger scales, improving their health, income level and overall livelihood, to bring about social transformation.
On her fourth birthday, 14 girls received STEAM(Science, Tech, Engineering, Arts & Maths) education in Bangalore, India with the Lisa Singhi Scholarship Fund.
On her fifth birthday,we raised funds to build a toilets in a rural school on the outskirts of the Bengaluru city which provided better sanitation facilities to the students in the school.
We are so humbled with the support and compassion we receive every year from our friends/family that we continue this tradition.
This year, we would like YOU to join us in this celebration on Lisa's 6th birthday. We invite you to help us support 15 students from Parikarma Humanity Foundation, a low income school in Bangalore and give them an opportunity to receive mentorship in diverse careers from industry professionals.
We notice, so many students are confused about their career decision in this day and age. With students from low income communities - they make their career choices based on influence from friends, parents and members in the neighborhood.
We believe, choosing a career is one of the hardest decisions a teenager has to make - especially for those who don't have the resources and mentors to learn about career opportunities.
Lisa herself has already started showing inclination to so many interests that we think, it's going to be hard for her as well when she needs to make a career decision. We think opportunities like having a mentor and receiving an industry exposure in high school itself would help in solving the problem.
Unherd, a Bangalore based organisation is working on this exact concept to provide mentorship programs and career experiential learning to high school and junior college students(13-18 years). From mentorship in tech, medicine, law to offbeat careers like film-making, photography, textiles, interior design - students get an early exposure about different careers, helping them make informed decisions.
