Story

My friend, Debarati, is working as a social worker, doing job many non profit organization.  She want to solve the livelihood problem of tribal.
Objective:-
  • To improve the quality of life and give support to the families of the Tribal villages
  • To reduce economic risk, due to natural hazards of the targeted communities living in the Hill and Plateau Basin.
  • To build capacities of the targeted communities in identification, production, financing and marketing of potential agriculture and non-agricultural products, including micro enterprises.
  • To promote business oriented community-based organizations, undertaking collective production and marketing techniques for long term sustainability.
Description:-
Balasore district also known as Baleshwar district is an administrative district of Odisha state in eastern India.Nilagiri is a town and a notified area committee in Balasore district.Nilagiri average altitude is 23m. The area mainly compromise hill and plateaus with laterite being the main soil type. Nilagiri receives rain from monsoon; summer is humid, winter is very dry.
Nilagiri Block Tribal village are living very peacefully manner. Agriculture is the main profession of this village. Still this village is waiting industrial development, education, drinking water, road and electricity are the main concern of this block. If banks and finance institution provide loan and other financial support to the villagers, this village will see the real development. Medical and health services has to be improved.
The tribal villages farmer are produced rice but due to water shortage the rice production almost poor. Such being the case all the farmers I interviewed are willing to improve and differentiate their agriculture and livestock activities (Animal, seed distribution and training).
Due to not proper income they lives temporary shelter of foot hills. They live unsafe shelter. All beneficiaries are now living unsafe shelter.
As far the supply of water is concerned, the slope of the village is dotted with numerous water source. There are no intake structure and the water is brought temporary tanks by lying pipes directly on the ground or dam. The existing water system approximate and inefficient. No analysis of water quality is available.
During the dry season the water supply decrease 40% of water flow, which cause shortage in the water supply to cover the needs of community. Because the water system is not properly organized and managed,  numerous leakage are present and part of this accumulative and infiltrated the terraced areas, jeopardising the stability of slope. A more efficient reorganization of the entire water system would diminish the infiltration and consequently the land slide hazard of the entire area.
Tribal are not use temporary latrine with taps or with buckets and hand washing facilities. They used open field for latrines this is very unhygienic and spread many diseases. They are not good hygienic condition,
We propose following activities aimed at improving the quality of life and increase agriculture and livestock activities of the Tribal community, Niagiri Block.
