Jyothi Bai was only 13 years old when she got married. Her husband passed away when she was 18. She had never gone to school or worked before, and now she had to take care of 2 children all alone. The future looked bleak for Jyothi but that is when she found out about The/Nudge’s Gurukul for underprivileged youth. She joined the 90 days residential program to train as a beautician. Today, she has a stable career working in a beauty salon, and is sending her children to school.

The Challenge
Every month, more than 1 million youth turn 18 in India. With most coming from economically weaker sections of society, India’s significant skill deficit would have been a great opportunity for them to find jobs and escape the cycle of poverty. But are they ready to join the workforce?

Our Solution: The/Nudge’s Gurukul
The/Nudge Gurukul Program is a 90-day, intensive, rigorous, fully residential training program designed for underprivileged youth. Through our residential Gurukuls, we provide high-quality vocational skills for blue and grey collar jobs for both young men and women. We focus on foundational learning (English, math, digital literacy) and life skills (financial literacy, health & nutrition, decision-making, communication, goal setting). We build strong 360-degree life, learning and economic foundations for underprivileged youth in India.

How It Works
Our community mobilisation team works round the clock to reach out to prospective students in different districts, villages and towns across Karnataka and in other states like Odisha, Jharkhand and UP. Young men and women from extremely underserved communities are counselled and admitted into the program.

At the residential Gurukul, through a systemic and disciplined environment, the students are trained to be better individuals and professionals, ready to take charge of their lives away from poverty.
Once the students complete their training, potential employers are invited to the Gurukul offering jobs for the students depending on their calibre and aptitude. We have a record of 98.98% placements with 60% students getting their first job! We also have life/guard - a unique lifelong alumni program providing constant support and counselling to each student.
