What is Kat-Katha?
In the year 2013, the seed of an unusual idea was born, in one of the unlikeliest of places in India. Registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860, Kat-Katha was born on the streets of GB road, the largest red light area in the National Capital Region. Looking back today, in a short span of five years, Kat-Katha has transformed the lives of several trafficked women, forced into sex work.

Since its inception, Kat-Katha has been guided by the vision of ending ‘Forced Sex Work’. Founded and enabled by experienced, passionate and professional social agents, Kat-Katha has today established itself as an organization synonymous with trust, respect and deliverability among its diverse stakeholders. Over the years, the efforts by Kat-Katha have been recognized at several prestigious forums including L’Oreal Paris Femina Women Awards, Times Now Amazing Indian Award, Zee TV Fempowerment, Mahindra Rise Award, and so on.

Kat-Katha began the transformation process with a four pronged approach called RISE (Rights, Integration, Skills, and Education). With time, as the process evolved, the idea of staging the cycle of transformation into four phases came about, namely; Field Research and Relationship Building to plough deeper and strengthen our roots on GB Road with the Didis and children, Establishing the Bridge School at GB Road to prepare the Didis and Children and bridge the gap to freedom, Creating Empowering Projects to enable the women and children to lead a powerful life of their own choice, and finally, Moving Them Out to rejoice the Freedom from forced ‘sex work'. Kat-Katha is well on its journey to accomplish the “Freedom for women and children” by the aforesaid process of change. This process includes the Annual Event “Kat-Kalrav”

What is Kat-Kalrav?
Kat-Kalrav, in the most simple and truest sense, is a Celebration of Freedom and Togetherness! It also marks the Founding Day of Kat Katha. While the whole Country is celebrating Independence Day with the The Prime Minister unfurling the Indian Tri-Colour barely five kilometers away, the Didis and their children are confined to the dingy rooms within the red light district, being denied the basic human rights of hygienic living conditions, acceptance and much more, a sharp contrast. Hence Kat-Kalrav is the fest, one of its kind that believes that every segment of society should celebrate the thought of Freedom in their own way and spread Love, bereft of any misgiving.
The theme of Kat-Kalrav this year is ‘Bachpan Ka Pitara’. We are trying to give the Didis and their children a chance to reflect and relish the “joys and fantasies of childhood”, as most of them have been denied this as they were forced into sex work while in their teens. They also need an opportunity to celebrate as much as their children who are stripped of these opportunities, given the unsafe nature of the place they live in and the limited acceptance.

The Financial Support
The Event also includes a “Walk for Freedom”.
The idea is to get collected at a point and then walk around GB Road in a festive mood interspersed with dance and colours, rekindling the various aspects our theme “Childhood”.
The purpose behind the walk is towards integrating the two worlds: The unfortunate “Dark World Inside” World to the “Bright World Outside”.  The street will be decorated with the colour of RED signifying the red light districts and will host a variety of games, stalls, food etc.
Your contributions will be used to put up lights, banners and music to transform the road into one of celebration inviting the Didis and Children to dance, sing, perform and feel liberated.
The fun and games would also involve activities like mehndi, pottery, bottle painting, t-shirt painting, etc., wherein the Didis and Children can freely interact with mainstream people and feel integrated and empowered.
The Entire Budget for this life changing event is just Rs Sixty Thousand so please support us in our attempt to make this a “Day of Love”. Every single contribution will be of great value.

The Great Day of our Country is celebrated each year with fun and frolics. With the hope that the happiness will linger on for some time and together we’ll be able to create a million more such moments in their lives.
We also extend you the invitation for participating in making Kat-Kalrav 2018, and your presence will contribute to bridging the gap of the Didis and their children with the “outside world”.
