I feel like the most unfortunate father for not being able to hold my child in my arms, comfort her during distress, or pacify her when she cries. Even before my daughter came into the world, she was diagnosed with a heart problem. The last two months of my wife’s pregnancy was stressful and worrying, as we were told that he would’ve to go through three surgeries post birth. We didn’t want to give up on her then, and we don’t want to give up now. The cost for her treatment is going way beyond our capabilities which puts me in the state of despair. My daughter suffers from congenital heart disease with Coarctation of Aorta, which means that her aorta is very narrow resulting in the obstruction of the blood flowing to lower part of the body. The cost for further treatment compiles up to Rs. 12,02,285 ($16,222) which is impossible for me to arrange.

During the 7th month of my wife’s pregnancy, the scan showed some irregularities in our baby’s heart. The doctors concluded that our child has a problem in her heart, and since the facilities for treatment weren’t available in Vellore, we had to take him to Chennai. As difficult it was for us to take in the news, we stayed strong for we were told it could be cured. Immediately after her birth, she underwent CoA repair. It wrenches my heart every time I see my one-month-old infant in ICU, covered with the tubes and oxygen masks. She has not recovered yet; she is unable to breathe on her own. The treatment is still ongoing, and we are out of money to support her treatment.
My presence in Chennai has affected my work back in Vellore. The overwhelming expenses lead me to sell a land we owned, pledge the jewellery, and borrow from friends and relatives. About Rs. 12,00,000 ($16,192) lakhs has been spent on the surgery, medication, and the injections alone. Expenses for the room, family’s daily needs, and the bills have stripped away all the money and we are left with nothing now. You can help my baby overcome and survive.
