I am Shyam from India. I was very successful software professional fortunate enough to have worked across nations and had an opportunity to see the world closely.

Now that, I turned to an aspiring social entrepreneur, I need your support for translating my idea into action. My idea is aimed to address the following to an extent.

1. Environment protection with plastic bottle recycling.
2. Promoting healthy living with organic vegetation on rooftops of urban living spaces, office spaces etc.
3. Creating a sustainable model for "pluck n pay"  or "pluck n cook" living spaces.
4. Creating employment opportunities.
5. Reducing energy consumption by creating a green vegetation layer on urban rooftops (which eventually reduces the temperature at homes and saves transportation cost.)
6. Zeroing chemical preservatives on food which automatically turns people more healthier.

Here is how I want to do.

I propose to build my model on easily scalable iron frame structure on which interlocked plastic bottles can be used as grow pots without soil. I intend to use coco-peat as growing media. Therefore, there won't be any  earthy mud / soil on rooftop and hence there is no possibility of damaging  rooftops.

Drip irrigation will be used in this model. Therefore, there will not be any water related damage to the rooftop. Even organic plant growth nutrients will be added to drip system. There will not be any water wastage as the same water is re-cycled continuously until it is absorbed by plant or gets evaporated into environment.


They don't have to take care. There will be a team who makes a periodical visit to the rooftop garden and will take care on plant growth.

The produce may be used for domestic consumption or it may be marketed at local markets. In fact, commercial rooftops can be converted to 'pluck and pay' market areas for buyers.

What I did so far is

I invested about Rs.5,00,000/- to built the permanent structure. I have built prototype of vertical gardening with inter locking plastic bottles. For the purpose of prototype, I have not done drip irrigation instead, nutrient potential water supplied manually. I have observed good plant growth and produce.

How I plan to use the funds.

Funds will be used for following.

1) To scale-up the prototype to next level sizing to about 700 pots
2) For building a system t convert domestic kitchen waste to liquid organic nutrients
3) For developing a drip irrigtion system for vertical garden.
4) consultancy for agricultural experts and for hiring IoT (Internet of Things) technology experts for solution development for complete automation of the process.
5) Market promotion for produce and building similar systems around.
