Centre For The Empowerment Of Woman

Jeevodaya Ashram started in 1995 by Sisters Of the Holy Cross and stands for bringing joy, peace, justice and love to the least, specially woman who are:
  • Drawn into crime due to poverty and despair
  • Forced to sell their womanhood for survival
  • Brutally molested in brothels and flesh trading centers and trafficked
  •  In any other moral danger
Sisters are successful in last two decades rehabilitating hundreds women in Bangalore, Karnataka.  Most of the women are from ‘Reception Home’, jail who completed their sentencing period and CWC – a government agency managing women’s issues including trafficking.  Here are some snapshots about their wonderful work –
  • There are almost 45+ women are married and happily living in and around Bangalore through Jeevodaya Ashram.  Sisters help the families to cover their  financial difficulties, especially in medical and education and any other moral support they need.  Around 800+ ladies walked out of Jeevodaya and found their renewed life in last 20 years.
  • Almost 15 inmates are trained in ANM, General Nursing and home nursing and found their new life
  • 3 computer graduates
  • A girl completed MBA  (started from 10th) and working as a Financial Consultant in an MNC
  •  Sisters visit Bangalore central jail and provide counseling to the ladies inmates
  • Counseling the Jeevodaya Ashram inmates who are from various backgrounds – human trafficking, imprisonment and other immoral background – and bring them back to the mainstream life.
Jeevodaya currently housing 15+ inmates and they accept local donations to find their livelihood.   They make and sell handmade articles like greeting cards, candles, paper bags, hand crafts, tailoring etc. to cover the daily expenses.

Their current home for both Sisters and inmates.

  • Infrastructure is always a nightmare for Jeevodaya and there are not enough space for training, working and living.  They took up a new project to build a space for the above purposes so that they can do more effective job.  Being a Govt approved minority institution, Karnataka State Minority Department sponsored Rs: 54,00,000/- for the construction of the building, but that not enough.   We are floating this project to raise Rs: 10,00,000/-  (US $: 15,625/- ) and support Jeevodaya to fund below activities
  • Complete the electrical work and install fans, lights and other electrical components
  • Basic infrastructure like – Chair, tables, coats and other basic amenities
  • Steel wardrobes in the dormitory and rooms
  • Install overhead projector with sound system in the community hall
  • Basic infrastructure in the kitchen – water purifier, vessels, stove, plates etc
  • Bathroom fittings – taps, geysers, commode etc

All the income and expenses from this funding will be controlled and audited by individuals outside Sr. Clara, Jeevodaya Ashram will have direct control over the spending.
