For Soumya Ranjan Behura, age-34 from Choudwar, Cuttack.... a private company employee, his family's covid nightmare began on April 22nd, when his sister in law was detected with covid symptoms and found RTPCR positive. Gradually his entire family including his brother , his father, mother, wife and himself tested positive and got admitted in Aditya Aswin covid hospital and AMRI hospital leaving his 1 year old son at home. Everyone in his family recovered except the younger one in the family that's Soumya who's condition didn't improve and he was put in NIV and later on in Ventilator approximately for 12 days in the same hospital, where as no improvement was noticed. COVID infection has caused severe pneumonia and other fungal infections which were primary cause of his illness.
Considering his health conditions their family decided and shifted him to some private hospital in Bhubaneswar where he has been advised to be under ECMO support, which was the only thing that could let him survive. He is under ECMO +Ventilator support since May 23rd wherein no significant improvement has been noticed in his condition and the treating physician has asked to shift him to higher health facility I e MGM hospital, Chennai for lungs transplantation. One month on, the family has racked up a bill worth Rs 37 lakh. Their family and friends just want him to survive, but again this comes with a very huge financial burden.
The approximate cost of the treatment would be more than one crore for estimated treatment duration of 2 months.
ECMO supported airlift -25-30 lacs (one time cost)Lungs transplantation cost- 60 lacs approx. (One time cost)
Daily ICU and ECMO charges - 2-3 lacs per day Unforeseen expenses - 20-40k per day
Post transplant treatment hospitalization - 1 lac per day.
For his family, it was like the sky had come crashing down. Both, the COVID and the cost to save him left the family devastated. So as a very close friend of the couple i request you to extend your support for the young guy and help him to survive. Any small contribution will help him to see and live a new life.
