    This fundraiser will benefit

    IVCM Foundation

    from Chennai, Tamil Nadu

Tax benefits for INR donations will be issued by India Village Crusader Movement Foundation

Your donation to this fundraiser will assist the impoverished day laborers, who have suddenly lost their ability to earn daily wages and have been deprived of their livelihoods, due to COVID-19 regulations. For just ₹1,500, you can provide a food supply kit (rice, dhal, and oil) that will provide for a family of four for one week.

Why do impoverished day laborers need help at this time?
On March 24th, 2020, India's Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi announced the world’s largest lockdown, asking 1.3 billion Indians to stay home for 21 days to slow the spread of COVID-19 lockdown, which has now been extended till the end of May. While it was a necessary step to combat the spread of the virus, the lockdown has already proved catastrophic for India’s millions of impoverished day laborers, who earn a daily salary and live a hand-to-mouth existence. With little money to feed their families, millions have been suffering from starvation. The New York Times* reports that these laborers are being forced to scrounge for food and struggling to find ways to make money each day. As per the article, one laborer said: “it was a race between whether the virus or hunger got to him first.” Sadly, that is the reality that this segment of the population faces if it does not receive help. By one estimate, laborers will die from causes like starvation, violence, accidents, and diseases, then from COVID-19
