I, Vinit and my wife Bharti were blessed with our first child Vihaan in March’ 2012. We were very excited and feeling blissful to have little Vihaan in our life but unfortunately after 3 months he was diagnosed with a very critical disease named BETA THALASSEMIA - MAJOR. This unfortunate news traumatized our entire family and it took Vihaan to many hospitals across India to find the right treatment.

BETA THALASSEMIA - MAJOR is a critical blood disorder that causes a striking deficiency in production of hemoglobin. At birth, Vihaan seemed entirely normal as the fetal hemoglobin was predominant but this fatal disease begins to develop within the first few months after his birth and becomes progressively more and more severe.

After meeting various Doctors - Paediatric Haematology Specialists and series of medical examinations, we learnt that the only curative treatment of BETA THALASSEMIA - MAJOR is BONE MARROW TRANSPLANT which requires an HLA (human leukocyte antigen) - Matched Donor but he will have to be on regular blood transfusion and Iron chelation therapy until a matched donor is found. With his growing age, the frequency of blood transfusion is increasing and so as the Iron chelation dose which is very painful for a small kid like Vihaan.

Over last 5 years, Vihaan is suffering with this critical disease and is on regular blood transfusion and Iron chelation (a therapy to remove iron overload from human organs i.e, lungs, heart, liver etc caused due to blood transfusion) at Narayana Hrudayalaya (Mazumdar Shaw Cancer Centre, Bommasandra, Hosur Road, Bangalore).

With the help of Dr. Shobha B, Dr. Sunil Bhat (at Narayana Hrudayalaya - Mazumdar Shaw Cancer Centre) and DATRI (A Bone Marrow Registry), we have found an unrelated matched Bone Marrow donor for Vihaan in June’17 which gave us a ray of hope for his life. The bone marrow transplant is planned between July’17 to Sep’17 months. To proceed with the treatment, it requires a huge amount of money.

I am working as an accountant with a private organization and my wife is a home maker. The estimated cost of the treatment is Rs. 52 Lacs / USD 80K (Hospital Estimation Enclosed) which we are finding difficulty and impossible to personally arrange this huge sum of amount for my son’s treatment.

We are requesting for your support to help Vihaan fight back this sinful disease and recover completely. We will be grateful to all the donors for saving my son’s life.
