SLAP also focuses on menstrual health and hygiene as one of it's core aspects, and this year we are looking forward to facilitate the lives of menstruators by providing sustainable menstrual products to 30 young Muslim women in Balipara of Sonitpur district. We already host Learning Circles with these young women who come from the marginalized identity groups, although we had to halt it at such turbulent times where they and their families are going through financial crisis in addition to what they had to bear during the last year.
Our aim is to also build infrastructural change and with the pandemic surging and hitting us so personally, young people's mental and sexual health have been at stake. We want to start Assam based support groups for the same in presence of professionals and experts by ensuring that providers are paid.
We also have collaborated time and again with budding collectives like ours to share the resources and stand for each other at times of crises like this. One of them is Xomonnoy who are an intersectional queer feminist group based out of Assam. They have been showing relentless efforts in providing services to the LGBTQIA+ community. They aim to provide either financial aid or dry ration to the individuals struggling through this burden of doing everything on their own.
With this, we would also like to earnestly tell you that all these years both the collectives have been functioning with 0 funding support from any organization. We are independent and in fact have spent money from our own pockets. Last year, we at SLAP did our successful and very first fundraiser where we could provide 900 sanitary napkins during the lockdown in several rural areas and urban slums of Assam with people's help. This year is even more challenging with everything turning online and the urge to keep up with it, we also need to use several tools and services on a daily basis which costs us a considerable amount that we pay on an individual level. And now, we need YOU!
We are urging people to support us in this cause and help us survive our initiatives and share the financial burden with collective efforts and mutual aid.
Our current budget plan looks as follows:
30x 350= Rs.10,500
2. Mental health + sexual health support group for 10 sessions in presence of professionals and experts:
5. Miscellaneous or technical expenses (Zoom, Canva, Adobe, G- Drive) for SLAP & Xomonnoy:
We trust you and hoping the trust from you too. In order to reach out to me to know more about our efforts and initiatives, please write to me at firstname.lastname@example.org or WhatsApp at+91 8011387561.
Note: These amount will help us survive a few months definitely and we need to constantly keep helping each other in order to sustain independent and community supported collectives like ours.
