Vilas (33Yrs) born with sever Hemophilia A. Hemophilia is a genetic bleeding disorder wherein clotting factor in blood is missing means blood does not clot normally after injury. He’s been in and out of the hospital since his teenage, hampered from living normal life. Maintaining treatment and a Hemophilia friendly lifestyle in India is expensive. He continued education till class VIII, but stopped midway. He hasn’t retained to school since from last 20 Years.
Growing up those’ s been countless if unfortunate incidents on a normal day, he would experience swelling and bleeding in his joints, whenever he puts uneven weight on then while sleeping or without obvious cause.
Even time he must be confined in hospital and transfuse with factor VIII, a protein needed to form a clot and stop internal bleeding. One unit of factor cost Rs.20/- and a normal person having weight of say 50 Kgs needs 10000 units, costing 20,000/- per incident of bleed. Mr. Vilas can’t afford this huge cost and negligence has made Vilas physically handicapped. Once his right leg is being badly bleeding and it is being amputated to avoid any further infection to other parts and body.
This amputation has been done around 11 months back but doctors are worried as crutches might lead to bleed his shoulder due to pressure and recommended to use special custom-made prosthesis. The cost of this prosthesis is around Rs. 1,80,000.00 which Vilas cannot afford.
Vilas is staying in slum area of Pune and before injury he was running a mobile repairing shop, which was sold for the amputation operation. Now Vilas is on bed and totally helpless and his wife is working as housekeeping work the family income of his mother and wife is around Rs. 8,000.00 per month on which his entire family is depends on. Vilas is having 2 school going daughters, wife, father and mother depending on him. It’s practically very difficult for his family to meet both ends.
Vilas has big dreams. After getting prosthesis Vilas want to be self-dependent and want to re-start the closed mobile repairing shop.
We, Hemophilia Society of Maharashtra Pune chapter is a NGO which work for Hemophilia patients for their medical treatment and physiological and financial rehabilitation. Like Vilas Dhotre we have been registered and we are supporting 938 Hemophiliac patients residing in and around to Pune,
We are requesting you to take a small part in our dream to provide prosthesis of 180000 INR and 50000 INR for his financial rehabilitation.
