I am a photographer and copywriter by profession. I started training 5 specially-abled individuals last year in basic skills of photography. Little did I know that these children would far exceed my expectation in terms of the way they see and capture the world around them.
The children have had rigorous training in photoshoots - studio and outdoors, composition and post production. We are now looking at setting up India's first photo studio run and operated by adults with disabilities. My eldest sibling is also intellectually challenged, and it pains to see that even after all these years, the maximum these individuals are expected to do is paint diyas, make candles or clean spices.
I have taken up the responsibility of providing them skill development in the field of photography, as it is a fast growing profession and pretty much in demand. I do understand that having them in a studio setup will make things easier for them as it is just some specific set of rules that they need to follow.They are just designed differently, but they are as human as you or me, and hence, the minimum we can do is provide them with equal opportunities to grow.
Now, to take forward the same, I'm looking at training them on how to use lighting in a studio setup and for the same, I shall be doing free classes for NGOs in Delhi, Chandigarh, and Himachal. At the same time, I am opening my doors to other such individuals and their families who would want their special kid to do more in life than just work as a waiter or paint diyas.
The cost of the equipment and running the photo studio are mentioned below -
1. Elinchrom FRX400 lights x 4 - Rs. 60,000/-
2. Backdrops x 2 - Rs. 10,000/-
3. Travel Costs (15 days) - Rs. 35,000/-
Please help me raise this amount so that I can reach out to more adults with disabilities and impart skills that can make them self-reliant and ready for employment.
