Mr. Pushkaran hailing from Ponnani, Malappuram has been struggling with diabetes over the past few years which turned critical last year due to which he had to surgically remove severe gangrene off both his feet. His condition was so severe that doctors and hospitals refused treatment as they thought a surgery was pointless, until Janatha Hospital at Vadakara provided him treatment. Pushkaran was provided financial aid by his neighbors and people from around his locality for the initial treatment and surgery. An amount of Rs 20 lakhs was shelled out in the past one year only. Mr.Pushkaran along with his wife and two daughters are struggling to make ends meet. His youngest daughter is also undergoing treatment for a nervous disorder, which was followed after she fell into a coma last year.Presently the family requires a minimum amount of Rs 40,000 per month for Mr.Pushkarans treatment alone.
