Cyclone Ockhi Relief and rehab for Lakshadweep Islands

Lakshadweep islands in India, which was hit by a very severe cyclone Ockhi on Dec 1& 2, has suffered a loss of over Rs 500 crore. Normal life in three islands — Minicoy, Kalpeni and Kavaratti — was badly hit by the cyclone.

Around 500 houses suffered damage, several coconut trees got uprooted and electric and communication lines were disrupted due to the calamity in Minicoy island alone.

Several crores of rupees have to be spent for rebuilding the houses and paying compensation to farmers who suffered huge losses as rains accompanied by strong winds lashed the Lakshadweep islands under the influence of Cyclone Ockhi.

Though there is no loss of life reported due to calamity, the damages to property and plantation is unprecedented and it may take several months to rebuild the losses. Through this fund raising initiative we intend to help the families in distress to rebuild what is lost.

Please help the people of Lakshadweep with your donation as much as you can.
