Mohammad Iqrar, a resident of Ali Colony in Thakurganj, Lucknow, suffers from polio in both his legs and is barely able to walk or perform his daily chores. His wife is also a polio survivor with severe disability. His younger son too has some orthopaedic complication and walks with great difficulty at a tender age of four. Iqrar is the lone breadwinner in his family of five, three of whom suffer from polio and incur regular medical expenses. His financial condition is extremely poor. He drives a hired e-Rickshaw and earns between Rs.500/-to Rs.600/- but has to give away Rs.350/- to the owner of this e-rickshaw each day. He manages House Rent, Children’s education, Clothes, medical bills and all other miscellaneous expenses with the balance Rs.250/-. In spite of his difficulties, Iqraar hasn’t given up hope. Like all of us, He too dreams of a better future and wants his children to get educated.
A second hand E-Rickshaw costs only Rs.40,000. Iqrar has been driving this rented E-rickshaw for the last 1.5 years but he still doesn’t own it. Rent seekers end up charging way more than they deserve. If Iqrar could get an initial investment of Rs.40,000, he could own a second hand E-rickshaw and need not give someone else a major portion of his hard earned daily wage as rent for his E-rickshaw. This could ease his financial burden to an extent. Iqrar is a man of self-respect who never asked anyone for help, even when he needed it badly. This time I could see him in pain and cry when I probed more on his family’s well-being. I am raising Rs 50,000 for Iqrar so that he can buy a second-hand e-Rickshaw and can also bear his daughter's school expenses for some time with the balance. Kindly donate and help.
