ENABLING HIM TO BE AN ACTIVE PART OF OUR ESSENTIALLY, HEARING AND SPEAKING WORLD!

Instead of teaching sign language to the hearing impaired children, they are given training with innovative oral-aural method and enable them to listen, learn and speak. Four out of every thousand of new born babies may have hearing loss and parents are helpless because of proper guidance and one stop facilities. Our foundation is established in 2007 & registered under society registration act 1860 & Bombay public trust act 1950 with Asst. charity commissioner, Akola, also registered ’ u/s 12 AA and 80 G of income tax act 1961. we runs’ BALVIKAS KENDRA’ and BALVIKAS SPECIAL ORAL AURAL SCHOOL for hearing impaired children ,A rehab centre, speech hearing language training & parent training of young hearing impaired under single roof.
The program is constructed to bring them in to hearing & speaking world & to enable them to get education in normal school with normal child at primary level.

Statement of Need
Four deaf babies are born in every 1000 birth. Basically there are four categories of deaf i.e. mild, moderate, severe & profound. If they are fitted with suitable hearing aids, they can hear, if taught with special method they can learn to speak at the early age (plasticity age).
If hearing aid fitting has been assertive and well-managed, the child learn spoken language naturally, can converse with relative ease under the direction of an auditory-verbal therapist, special educator in partnership with parent,
But, first they faces disability of deafness ,dumbness follows, moves to special education for the deaf, by sign language method up to middle school Still there are no facilities to continue their higher education in same stream. Hence, only 2.5 % reaches to secondary school, 1.1 % to higher secondary, 0.9 % up graduation level
Hence, if they are taught & trained by oral and aural method can go extra mile with general schooling and they can have Opportunity to be with main stream of society.
This is the only oral aural rehab centre of this region, families from about 6 Districts (Amravati, Akola, Washim, Buldhana, Yavatmal, Nasik, Nagpur) are temporarily shifted to Akola to joined the formulated programme run under single roof.
We are maintaining team of special educators, audiologist, ENT, craft teacher, general teacher, music teacher, yoga teacher, parent’s counsellor, social worker, dance teacher.
Since Last 10 Years constantly taking efforts for general school integration of hearing impaired child ,this year 25 Hearing Impaired students are in BALVIKAS SPECIAL SCHOOL and 18 HI kids and mothers are supported at BALVIKAS KENDRA (language-speech-hearing training and parent training & guidance program ), 38 parents joined regular as an equal partner. About more than 600 families counselled and guided to support their special child. Till today 71 Hearing impaired kids are integrated into general school as general scholar.

We are working with temporary arrangement since last 12 years, with honorary staff and faculties, organised temporary facilities. Making awareness among doctors and society about early detection and intervention of hearing disability. Providing educational support to deaf general scholars, supporting them to avail equal opportunities in to society. Empowerment of parents to deal the problem of their special child. Complete exposure to deaf student as good as normal child, participation in all competation as normal child avails, providing updates about hearing management.
Geographic area of work place
Our work is located at Jyoti nagar, Jatharpeth, Akola, Maharashtra, Dist.Akola; it is an established fact that, if hearing loss is present it should be detected and remedial action taken before the baby is 6 months old. As there is no universal screening nor a high risk screening existing in the private and government hospitals .Help the children access early intervention facilities, Most challenging is to deal the H I child at age of 3-4 years because, plasticity age is up to 6 yrs only. In this region all the deaf school teaching method is only sign language.
