This campaign is run by MAYILVANAM TRUST to help needy elderly people.
Sadly for more than 50% percent of elderly people, Television is their only form of company. And many face health issues due to old age. Lack of financial support makes them weak and vulnerable. No one should live is such an isolation, starved of companionship and care.
The funds raised will help put 'Smile in the face of every needy senior citizen'. This is what we believe in. We rely on the donations to find abandoned and forgotten elderly people and take care of them in our Old age home.
Life has its surprises for everyone. At sixty eight years of age, Dhanalakshmi had to face the worst of her life. In spite of old age, she was active and lived a normal happy life in a rental house with her husband. The smooth life took a rocky path due to the sudden demise of her husband. With no children to support, no job and the relatives not coming forward to offer help, she continued to live with whatever little savings was left. After some months, with no money in hand to pay rent for the house, she was forced to come to the streets to live.
When we came to know about her situation though a phone call from an unknown Good Samaritan, we immediately came to her rescue. Now she is leading a happy & peaceful life with other elderly people in our Old age home in Panaiyur. All the necessities like quality food, accommodation, medical help, clothes etc. are all provided by the Home.
We take care of the elders till their end. Death is still unknown and unpredicted. We provide a dignified, humane and respectful care to the deceased Senior based on the last will provided to us.
Started with only one senior citizen, today our Home in Panaiyur is the Vedanthangal for around 25 needy senior citizens and destitute women. Our Old age home is run by Mayilvanam Trust, a registered Public Charitable Trust working for the welfare of needy Senior Citizens.
Roadblocks being faced right now now...
• Risk of losing the place....The Old age home is now run in a rental building.
• Lack of vehicle to transport elders during times of emergency care.
• Lack of Inverter backup / Generator to handle power cuts. Power cuts are worse on elders who are tied to their beds due to lack of mobility.
• Lack of Funds to provide continued care.
We cannot do our work without support from people like you. We need your help to provide healthy food, accommodation, medical facilities, etc to them on a continued basis. This is an opportunity to make a lasting change in the lives of many needy senior citizens and destitute women who need a helping hand from kindhearted people like you.
