The pandemic continues to impact us all in one way or the other, some harder than others.
Recently, I learnt about a 4 years old boy, Akshit, who has lost both his parents to COVID-19 and was left alone to fend for himself; even his neighbors are afraid to help him. I am sure that he is not the only - there are many more who have lost their parents; many who are home alone with both parents battling the virus in some hospital; many possibly fighting the virus themselves. I have been told that there are others who are not so visible to us - those whose parents have lost daily wage jobs after being tested as Covid positive; those who are fighting hunger as the schools and Aanganwadis which were serving them meals have no funds left to buy food for them.
Who Am I?
My Name is Manish Gupta. I am resident of Bangalore, India. Alumnus of IIT-BHU (formerly IT-BHU), University of Kentucky, Lexington and IIM-Bangalore. For me, as a citizen of Bangalore, which has given me so much, sitting idle and be a mute observers is NOT AN OPTION. So while I count my blessings and fortunes in these unprecedented times, I am trying to do my bit to help those who are less fortunate.
What I am Trying to Do?
Trying to support Whitefield Rising, a citizens led not-for-profit group in Bangalore, India, which is trying -
- To setup safe spaces for the children while our systems find ways to rehabilitate them
- To setup Covid Care Centers for children who have been tested Covid+
- To setup care centers for the kids whose parents are in isolation fighting the Covid
- To buy medicines, treatments, essentials (meals, milk) for the children, through schools and Aanganwadis
I am more than hopeful that folks connected to me, professionally or socially, will be able to join me and help me raise the money needed to take care of these not-so-lucky children in Bangalore.
