1) The two diseases Yash suffers from are very uncommon and started at 15 years of his age, they are lifelong diseases 

Yash has been suffering from two relatively rare diseases for now almost 7 years (since he was 15 year old). He has a disease where you have recurrent spontaneous unprovoked inflammation (swelling) of pancreas (IgG4 pancreatitis). Yash has had more than 50 attacks of pancreatitis in last 7 years. He also has had two surgeries done on his pancreas.

Secondly, he also suffers from an arthritis which occurs in young males, known as Ankylosing spondylitis. He has pain and swelling all over his spine and other joints. He has to take painkiller injections to relieve his pain almost every other day.

2) Why the family needs money for treatment ?

Yash has had more than 30 hospital admissions in last 7 years because of this recurrent attacks of swollen pancreas. He also had had 3 MRI's, 3 CT scans, numerous ultrasounds and 4 endoscopies during this period. He had a major surgery last year, where his distal pancreas and spleen had to be removed.

Yash's father works as an ward boy (class IV) worker in a hospital since 30 years. He currently has a meagre salary of 15000 rupees (225 dollars) per month . He has one other son, elder to Yash who has just started working as a trainer in preschool with a meagre salary of 10000 rupees per month (150 dollars). The father has managed somehow until now, accumulating a large debt in the process.

The worst part is, Yash's arthritis has become very active over the last 3 years. He requires a injection (injection Enbrel / Etanercept ) which costs rupees 20000 per month (~300 dollars) to treat the same. This he has to mostly take lifelong. At the same time his treatment for swollen pancreas also has to continue.

To summarize,

Total family earning currently (monthly)  =  Rs 25000 ( ~ 375 $ or 303 pounds)

Expenditure on Yash's treatment (monthly) = atleast  Rs 30000 (~450$ or 365 pounds) - mostly lifelong

He is progressively getting crippled, losing weight and takes daily painkiller injections to get rid of his pain, as family is unable to arrange money to procure injections on a regular basis.

3)  What happens if family doesn't get desired money in the long run ?

Yash's father will continue to manage somehow, mostly by accumulating more debt. However, as clear from the above scenario it will become unviable at some point. Yash will continue to go downhill if he doesn't get the required treatment. The parents are severely stressed and depressed. Yash's mental health is also at it's lowest, with him developing suicidal ideations. This makes us wary of future forthcomings for Yash and family.

4) Doctors are helping, but it is not enough

The three doctors taking his care do not charge any fees for him and his surgeries have been done at negligible costs. We have also tried to get the company to agree to provide injection at one third the original cost, if he keeps on taking them regularly from the same company. We expect the injection costs to come down drastically in future, one's its patent expires. This probably will make it easier to sustain his treatment in future.
