    This fundraiser will benefit

    Viranjan Kumar

    from Jaipur, Rajasthan

When I came home, I could hear him crying in his room. He was sleeping when I left, and there was no one else at home. I was so scared I dropped the medicines and ran inside. I... I almost fainted when he looked up at me.

His face, his clothes, his bed... were covered in blood. Some on the floor too.

He had been trying to wipe the floor with his bedsheet and hide it under the bed. He was afraid that he would get scolded for ‘making a mess’.

A year or so ago, little Viranjan woke up one day with a slight fever that kept getting worse as the day progressed. It persisted for a few days, despite timely medicines. His parents Dhanji and Runidevi, ended up taking him to Patna, Delhi, Bombay and Lucknow over the course of a year, upon doctors’ recommendations, trying to get him diagnosed. It wasn’t until he was brought here to Jaipur that his condition was finally revealed.

Viranjan was diagnosed with aplastic anemia

“They say he has some kind of blood disorder. That’s why over the past year or so he has gone from being an intelligent little boy who loved playing with his friends, to someone who can’t even get out of bed without help from someone. They say... they say it’s a life-threatening condition, and I believe them. I have lost count of how many times I’ve seen my boy bleed, and each time it looked like he was dying right then. One time he vomited blood! He needs urgent treatment!”

It is so easy for him to start bleeding and it's so hard to stop it

Aplastic anemia is a serious condition in which the bone marrow doesn’t make enough new blood cells. This is why it’s so easy for little Viranjan to start bleeding. And once he starts, why it’s so hard to stop it. He’s already suffering from nausea and body aches that go with the condition, and bloody diarrhea, bloody urine, and bloody vomit. He has even started getting constant and various infections, one of which has temporarily blinded him. All this indicates he is in the final stages of the disease. The only thing that can come between him and death at this point is an urgent bone marrow transplant.

Dhanji could never afford the 25 lakhs his son needs

“I’m just a factory worker. It was a struggle for me to afford even the train tickets we needed to take our son to all those cities and hospitals. How can we ever afford such an expensive treatment? Please, if you’re reading this, please donate as much as you can. Every little bit counts. I cannot watch our son die in front of our eyes. In the meantime, I found a job here in Jaipur, where I have to work double the hours and earn half as much as I used to back near my village, just to put food on our plates. I am trying my best. But I need your help. Please.”
