Story
Cyclone Ockhi, the first tropical storm of the season, over the districts in South Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Lakshadweep started on 30th November 2017, has taken many lives. It was an unprecedented calamity, which claimed several lives and caused a widespread damage to properties. It has also dismantled the daily life completely.
Four men from this family went fishing, and none of them returned. Jessy is a psychiatric patient. She had three brothers and a 19-year-old son until Ockhi swept them away. Jessy’s daughter, Kriji, was to be married. Her uncles were preparing for her wedding, and worked hard hauling fish everyday from the sea. Kriji waiting a whole day for her uncles and brother to return. She then heard about the cyclone and knew that her family had perished at sea. Now, Kriji has nobody to help care for her mother, and is afraid for her future. Your contribution can give Kriji a fresh chance.
Unfortunate that still many fishermen from Kerala & south Tamil Nadu are missing and didn’t return home. Many boats with fishermen were stranded in the sea and the islands. The people of this area have lost everything. They have lost their fathers/husbands/sons and only women and children are remaining in the houses. Some of them lost their fishing boats, fishing nets and other fishing instruments.Few boats with people have come back after a long struggle for life and few boats with people are missing. A total of 661 fishermen are missing and did not come back from the sea.
We are fundraising for 14 families that have lost their breadwinners due to cyclone Ockhi. Help us in this endeavour!
