Thanks for visiting my campaign page and following my run!

I’m running for a cause that’s very close to my heart.  Join me in giving voice to priceless memories of Partition that are fading fast. It’s a race against time and I’m running to help close the gap.  It will mean a lot to me if you would take a moment to support me, or join me, and at the very least take a couple minutes of your time to read on and learn more about my campaign.

I”m running today with my fellow volunteer Kamaldeep Sandhu, whose campaign I am supporting.  See his campaign here. https://www.facebook.com/donate/2116405418671705/

I’ll be running 200 kms over the next few months with a goal of raising rupees 50,000.

HERE’S how you can join me:

1) Donate any amount to support my run, and hence support the recording of stories (see below for details)

2) Run with me! Donate Rs. 500 for each km you will run with me from anywhere in the world (details on how you can run with me are below)

3) Donate Rs. 15,000 and honor one Partition witness. Dedicate my run for one day!  I will carry the name of a Partition witness you nominate, for the whole day with me.  We will post their story on social media.

WHY I’M RUNNING FOR THE NEXT MONTH

I come from a partition affected family and understand the pain of forced migration. I am supporting  Kamaldeep Sandhu, who is running a distance of 200 kms in United Kingdom, by joining him in his run for a distance of XXX km. 200km is about the distance millions of people traveled when they migrated during the partition of British India in 1947. It is approximately the same distance his father travelled as a five year old from Lyallpur (now Faisalabad) to Jalandhar. Sadly, he passed away in 2016.  Luckily The 1947 Partition Archive was able to record stories in Kamaldeep’s family, ensuring their precious historical memories live on with us, and continue to teach us important lessons. However, there are many survivors whose memories have not yet been recorded. Join me now to ensure those stories are not lost forever.

You can live track me during each run, updates will be available on my Facebook page. This way runners in India, Pakistan, US and other places can also join. It will be great to connect with you beyond the borders and run together for this noble and vital cause.

ABOUT THE 1947 PARTITION ARCHIVE’s 10,000 story mission

The 1947 Partition Archive is on a mission to ensure that people’s history of South Asia’s Partition is not forgotten. We document and preserve eye-witness accounts from ALL communities affected by the partition of British India. The aim is not only to preserve the stories for future generations but also to empower the partition witnesses and their families to re-write the existing narratives of Partition as well as to bring the knowledge of Partition into wider public consciousness.
We started this work in 2010 and have made a significant intervention already with nearly 7500 oral histories recorded, making it the largest oral history record from South Asia.  Prior to this, the collective memory of Partition was on the verge of being lost.  It is our goal to record 10,000 stories by the end of 2019 as thousands of people await the opportunity to share their memories. Given that Partition happened 70 years ago, there is a great urgency today as those who remember are in their 80’s and 90’s today.

How this run will help:

Through this run I’m raising money to help support the recording of 2,500 more families’ oral histories with The 1947 Partition Archive and your contribution will make a huge impact in reaching this goal. Whether you donate Rs.100 or Rs. 1,00,000 Every little bit helps. You can donate any amount today, in support of my run.  If you donate at least Rs. 15,000 I’ll dedicate my run for one day to a witness of Partition, you chose.  You can also run with me!  Here’s how...

WANT TO RUN WITH ME? FOLLOW THESE STEPS:
By running with me, you’ll officially be a part of the race to record stories and be collecting donations like me. You can join me from any country on the planet. Simply start your campaign and track your run!  Here’s how...

  1. Donate Rs. 500 for each km you would like to run with me.  You must run at least 1 km with me to join my campaign.  You can literally run with me here in Gurgaon!  Or join me in your own hometown, anywhere in the world.
  2. Create your own campaign, similar to mine, using a trusted platform by consulting with a team member at The 1947 Partition Archive.  You can even copy paste the campaign text on my page.
  3. Chose how many miles you want to run and how much you want to raise.  Remember that it costs Rs. 14000 to record and preserve one oral histoyr interview.  Download an app that tracks your runs live, like runtastic and start posting links to your runs on your campaign page.
  4. Start reaching out to your friends and family to make donations to your campaign.  This is how one rupee at a time, we will raise money for recording oral histories. Reach out to me and The 1947 Partition Archive for developing your outreach strategy.  Their team is super helpful, and so are other runners who are a part of this campaign.  We are here to walk this journey with you, literally and figuratively.
  5. Know that you’ve played your role in making history!

Donate Rs.15000 and I will carry the name of a Partition witness, perhaps in your family, for one day with me. We will post a narration of their story on social media.
