It has been 8 days since little Subir has been in critical condition in the ICU. He is yet to open his eyes. He is on ventilator support, battling for his life, after being diagnosed with both blood cancer and COVID.

"He was holding his leg and crying in pain. I didn't know what was wrong, but when I touched his body, it felt like I had been scorched by a hot pan. His stomach started swelling up from the medicines he was prescribed, and the doctors told us he has a liver infection. They'd just given him medicines for his liver when, that same evening, we found out our son is also suffering from blood cancer. All it took was a day for my whole world to come crashing down." - Pali, mother

This 2-Year old is on life-support, grappling with COVID

2-year old Subir has acute lymphoblastic leukemia, which is an aggressive cancer affecting the bone marrow and white blood cells. His blood count is so low, that he has to be given platelets and blood units every other day. To add to his woes, he even tested positive for COVID. Hhad to be shifted to the ICU and put on ventilatory support.

"It is so painful to see my son with all these wires and machines connected to his fragile body. Every day some complication arises and his condition keeps deteriorating even further. Just yesterday his left hand had swelled up due to an infection. He is only 2 years old, how can his body withstand such strong antibiotics and chemotherapy?" - Sajal, father

This farmer sold their only source of income to save his son's life

Sajal has come all the way from a village in West Bengal to Chennai in the hopes that his son can get proper treatment. He was forced to mortgage his land because he knew that treatment in the city would be expensive. But he never imagined that even after spending 7 lakhs, he would still be short of 15 lakhs to save his only child.

"I'm a farmer and our land was our only source of income, and even that is gone now. In this city, we know no one. We can't ask anyone for a place to stay, or even food. So every day, I end up spending a lot of money. I have borrowed loans from every single person I knew, but now I have no one left to turn to. The doctors are saying that his treatment will last a few more months, but right now I can't even afford another day's hospital bill ." - Sajal, father

With timely treatment, the chances of Subir's recovery is fairly high

Subir is currently suffering from respiratory distress due to COVID and has to remain in the hospital for a month or two. He needs chemotherapy, along with supportive care of blood products and antibiotics, to beat cancer. All this will cost his parents around 15 lakhs, but they don't have a single penny left. With timely treatment, he has a fairly good chance of recovery, yet his parents are unable to bear the expenses.

Little Subir is only 2 years old and has his whole life ahead of him. He is an only child and his parents dote on him. They have so many hopes and dreams for their child, and wish to see hin gorw up to be happy and healthy. Instead, they are helplessly having to watch their son in this critical condition. They are in dire need of your help.
