"In these 50 years, I have never been to any big cities. This is the first time I'm coming to Chennai to save my daughter. Doctors said she needs liver transplant at the earliest. I don't know anyone here, I cannot afford to rent even a small room in this city. All I have with me now is Rs 500, I have saved it to buy food for her. She is getting weaker every day. I don't know what I can do to save her." - Shiva Shankar.

She has recurrent jaundice for the past 6 years

Sivaranjani being the only girl child of her family was always pampered by her parents and her two elder brothers. She has always been active and a topper of her class. When she turned 6, she got jaundice, her parents took her to Ayurveda clinic as everyone does in her village. It subsided in 2 weeks but since then it has been recurring frequently . She was given medication every time but in vain. Her parents could never guess that their daughter was suffering from a dangerous disease.

"Last month, suddenly her stomach started swelling like a balloon. She had severe pain and vomited everything she had. We took her to a local hospital, they didn't know the reason for the swelling and asked us to take her immediately to a hospital in Chennai." - Lakshmi.

Parents were least prepared to hear the devastating news

By the time they reached Chennai, Sivaranjini's jaundice level increased abnormally. She became extremely weak and after a series of tests she was found to have Caroli disease, a rare genetic disorder in which the bile ducts enlarges abnormally. This has affected her liver completely and liver transplant is the only option to save her.

"When the doctors told us about her condition, we are unable to understand what most of it means. I understand it's deadly and that she needs immediate help. But hardly have enough money for two square meals a day, how can we afford the transplant?" - Siva Shankar

"I couldn't even afford my sons' studies - they are working with me now but even our combined incomes are not enough

Siva Shankar and Lakshmi are daily wagers, they work in farm and earn Rs 500 together. They have two sons Shankar and Muthu aged 14 and 18 respectively, they both discontinued their studies last year and started doing electrical work and tried several odd jobs to support the family. They made sure that Sivaranjini continued her studies and live a comfortable life. Her brothers were willing to sacrifice anything for their sister and hoped that one day they will fight their poverty and live a better life but Sivaranjni's diagnosis has shattered the family.

"It has been a month since we went for work and my sons earn few hundreds. We are already neck deep in debts and we need Rs 18 lakhs for the transplant. Even if all of us work the whole year we wont be able to earn this much of money. Please help me to save my daughter's life." - Siva Shankar.

Sivaranjini is hopeful to get back to home and live a normal life, her family is struggling every moment to help her. Only your contribution can save her life.
