"We thought the rain and changing weather gave him a fever. He was coughing so badly. Every day we would give him hot water and medicines but his fever did not go and then he started vomiting. He would hardly eat anything. One day he suddenly held his chest and started gasping for breath. We immediately took him to hospital. It was not viral fever or even pneumonia. My son has cancer," - Manju, the mother, breaks into tears.
Siddhant is in denial that he has cancer
"We haven't spoken to him about cancer openly but he knows what is going around. He knows he has to undergo chemotherapy for the next six months. He notices that we are worried , he knows we don't have the money to continue his treatment. But he stays so silent. He doesn't want to accept the reality - he is very scared and shocked. I just don't know how to talk to him about it."- Bholanath, father
Siddhant is 17 and is aware of the changes and pain his body is going through. He is academically brilliant and a super active child but everything has changed now. He is observing the situation around him and probably knows he has cancer. All these drastic changes have made him silent. He spends most of the day sitting or laying on the bed thinking about something that only he knows.
Even a small delay can cause the cancer to advanceThe treatment in case of blood cancer cannot be delayed. It is a continuous process without any breaks. In Siddhant's case, he needs chemotherapy for a period of 6 months. If any delay in his treatments is done, his cancer can get worse and it would be harder for him to recover.
"I don't want postpone it, I don't want my son to suffer for long. I just want to start the treatment at the earliest but how can I ? I am just a small farmer..."- father
Manju takes care of the family and Bholanath works as a farmer. He earns very little but is enough to sustain the family of four.
"When crops are good we earn, otherwise not - that too once in 6 months or so. We grow our food so that makes it easier for us to live on little money. Now, my son has cancer, that little money is not enough to save him. I have to borrow money even to take a bus to the hospital which is 100 kms away. I don't know how I will save him."
It will cost 10 lakhs for the chemotherapy but the poor family can not bear the cost. They are in desperate need of help.Your kind help can save Siddhant from cancer and he can lead a normal life.
