Shyama and I have been married for 31 years. I am a home-maker and we are blessed with a lovely daughter. Along with my mother-in-law, who stays with us, we were a happy family. That was until one fateful day Shyama got sick. With each passing day, visit to doctors and hospitals became a norm of life. After months of tryst, that included travelling several cities in India to find a cure, Shyama was diagnosed with end stage renal failure in 2008. Shyama needed a kidney transplant. He had to go through several painful days of dialysis till we finally found a kidney donor. We accrued all our resources, used up our saved funds and borrowed from generous friends and relatives to cover the cost of the kidney transplant.
After the surgery, Shyama started recovering and we could see a glimpse of light after years of gloom. Although he had lots of restrictions, we could now dream of a life of normalcy and see our daughter grow. Ten years passed. Barring the few hiccups Shyama was mostly leading a normal life. Late last year Shyama retired and we were looking forward to spending more family time together with our daughter and my mother-in-law.
But life had other plans. Earlier this year, Shyama fell sick again and we started living those dreaded days once again. In September 2018, Shyama was ONCE AGAIN diagnosed with end stage renal failure. He needs another kidney transplant IMMEDIATELY. He is undergoing treatment at Woodlands Hospital, Kolkata. The estimated cost of the procedure including dialysis charges, surgery, post-surgery recovery costs is Rs.12,00,000 (Rupees Twelve lakhs).
Every passing day is only making it more painful for Shyama and more anxious for us. Shyama is fighting his agonizing battle gallantly and we are marching along with him. With our funds already exhausted, my daughter, who is still in school, my mother-in-law and I need your support more than ever.
