    Shreyansh Singh

    from Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh

80G tax benefits for INR donations

“Early in January, he started vomiting and no matter what we did, it did not stop. I took him to Banaras and then brought him to Lucknow for treatment when they said he needed a surgery because fluid had accumulated in his brain. But biopsy showed that what he had was not just a brain tumour but stage 4 cancer.” – Neelam, Shreyansh’s mother

Ten-year-old Shreyansh has not been told the nature of his condition

Shreyansh has Medulloblastoma or brain cancer. But he thinks he is being treated for brain tumour and is waiting to finish treatment and go home. Because of illness, he could not finish his academic year in school. He has brought all his books and continues to revise maths and science. He wants to be a doctor – not a government doctor, he clarifies. But someone who will have his own hospital to get underprivileged people the best treatment possible.

“He is not a noisy boy. He is the quieter one at home. He likes to study and paint in his free time. His older brother Shikhar is the more boisterous one. He is with me as we wait for Shreyansh to get better. They used to fight all the time, but now, Shikhar does whatever Shreyansh says or asks for. It is very important that Shreyansh not be unhappy at this point and Shikhar has become very empathetic towards him.” – Neelam

Shreyansh’s father is a farmer who is back home trying to earn a living

Shreyansh lives in a small village in Balliya, UP with his parents and brother. His father Dhananjay works in the fields and earns a yearly income of Rs 2 lakhs when there is a good harvest. Shreyansh’s illness has been unexpected and the family has had to gather all their resources. They have sold off their farm to fund his surgeries so far. Because his cancer is advanced, they need a lot more to fund his treatment.

“When my child is sick, how do I keep count of expenses? I am living in Lucknow and I have not been able to keep track of how much I spend daily. Just today, I had to take him to another hospital for a few tests and had to take him there in a cab. With the tests and medicines, it all cost us Rs 2,000. We sold our land and put together Rs 12 lakhs for his surgery. But that is all gone and we haven’t even started him on chemotherapy.” – Neelam

Shreyansh’s treatment cannot be delayed by even a day

Already, Shreyansh is in the final stages of cancer and his cancer has spread to his brain and spinal cord. He needs immediate treatment to stop cancer and to reduce cancerous cells in his body. His family has completely exhausted all funds at their disposal in getting his treatment so far. His mother and brother are not ready to give up and are praying for help so Shreyansh’s life is saved.
