2015 was the year when 55-year-old Shardaben's life took a turn for worst. She along with her husband was involved in a car accident while travelling to visit their 24-year-old daughter Roshni. The couple were badly hurt and Shardaben's hip took the brunt of the fall.
Owing to the accident, Shardaben has been rendered almost bed-ridden for two years now. To right the wrong, she was made to undergo hip replacement surgery twice. On 20th June, 2017, she underwent her third hip replacement surgery.
Sharben's husband is the only earning member of the family. A teacher by profession, his monthly salary is Rs 35,000. The couple have one daughter who is still pursuing her higher education. In past two years since the accident, the family has spent close to 5 lakhs on Shardaben's treatment.
The estimated cost of recent surgery is 5 lakh. While the surgery has been conducted and so far being considered a success, Shardaben is expected to be in hospital for another one and half month. The family is supposed to pay their hospital dues towards the end of Shardaben's stay.
As it stands, it is beyond the family's ability to arrange for the funds as they have already exhausted whatever savings they had during past two surgeries.
