Help Serena and her group to strengthen their business

Serena, leads Vandana SHG group in Bangalore. Vandana group is engaged in making products out of banana bark mats. These products are sold through their umbrella producer company ‘Bangalore Greenkraft’. Serena along with 17 other women, formed SHG in 2009. They got trained through the NGO Industree Foundation and were provided with Market support. The efficiency consistently went up and now they are able to deliver goods on time.

Most of their products are exported and it takes about 3-4 months for payments to come. Due to this delay in payments, members go through lot of stress and many a times, attrition happens. It also results in loss of productivity and thereby profits.

To bridge the gap between the payments received from exporters and salaries to artisans, working capital loan of Rs. 5 Lakhs is required. Serena, who started her work in group as a helper, is now a leader. She believes other members can also progress, provided there is consistency in payments. If salaries are not paid on time, artisans find it very difficult to continue working and hence, there is break in their on-job training. If we can mitigate this gap, artisans can progress and earn more.
