Story

“When he started walking after just crossing the 1-year mark a few months ago, we were jumping with joy. He was healthy and meeting all his milestones perfectly. We thanked Allah for blessing us with our baby boy and vowed to take care of him to the best of our ability. Now, he is bedridden and very sick because of the deadliest disease known to man. We are still shocked and cannot believe how our lives have changed so drastically overnight.” - Sabiha, mother

Three months ago, Baby Sabihuddhin was walking clumsily around the house when he fell on his face. His mother, Sabiha, rushed to help him, and he was fine after a few minutes of non-stop crying. But soon, his mother noticed that his right eye had swelled up. Sabiha and her husband, Yamir Ali, rushed their baby to the nearest hospital, and he was administered first aid. They were told that the swelling would go away on its own, but that’s not what happened.

The swelling grew in size, and also became darker in appearance. Baby Sabihuddhin also started becoming weaker, and running recurrent high fevers. That is when his parents decided to bring him to Chennai from their hometown in Kolkata for treatment, not knowing exactly what to expect. They were beyond shocked to learn that their child was suffering from high grade B-cell lymphoma, an aggressive form of blood cancer.

“He needs chemotherapy to survive…his condition is worsening with every passing day’

The baby was admitted to the cancer ward immediately and started on chemotherapy. Due to the high dosage of cancer medicines, Sabihuddhin’s condition has been going from bad to worse. He refuses to eat solid food and does not suckle milk either. His piercing cries alarm his parents and put them in a state of constant worry.

“Without chemotherapy, he will not survive. The cancer is spreading rapidly in his body. Now, he is admitted in the ICU as his blood count dropped drastically after his most recent chemotherapy cycle. The only thing keeping him alive is also causing him so much pain and suffering. Watching your child go through this is one of the worst things for a parent to experience in their lifetime.”- Yamir Ali, father, tearfully.

‘We cannot afford to lose our only child…please help us’

Yamir Ali and Sabiha got married almost three years ago. They found out they were expecting soon after, and thanked Allah for the gift of parenthood that was bestowed on them without delay. They were just getting used to showering all their love on their little one, when he fell sick. But they did not give up – they travelled outside their hometown for the very first time, pooling as much money as they could – to save their son at any cost. But these parents are on the verge of losing this battle and are asking for your support.

“I am a Madrassa teacher who lives in a small town in West Bengal. I do not make a lot of money, nor do I have a lot of worldly possessions. I have always believed that Allah will help me in difficult times, and that’s what I believe now too. I don’t have the means to continue my son’s treatment. Please help me.”-Yamir Ali.
