The Changing face of women in agriculture – GAVL support helps in creating successful women agri entrepreneurs
The role of women in farming and agriculture is always neglected in India. 86% women play an important part in India's farming sector. SSCOP has realized these lacunae and has acknowledged this important role of women in agriculture in Coochbehar district of West Bengal.
An amazing women farmer named Hosneara Bibi of Village West Ghughumari in Coochbehar district whom Satmile Satish Club assisted through her SHG. Her husband works as a casual labor earning daily wages in Coochbehar city. The 3 Bigha land which they own was unable to give them the financial resources sufficing for a decent living. SSCOP as part of its agriculture work under the GAVL Project reached her village 2 years back. She and other women farmers were trained in modern practices of agriculture like Zero Tillage and other aspects of agriculture which brings profit.
After harvesting she got 6 quintal yield from Zero Tillage Wheat and only 4 quintal from traditional cultivation. According to the results she understood that Zero Tillage Wheat cultivation has low cost and increase in production. After Zero Tillage Wheat She Started Mechanical Rice Transplanting Technology with the Training Support from SSCOP-GAVL Project. She and her SHG Group started a Paddy Seedling Factory and Mechanical Rice Transplanting Technology as a business model and 1st year they were highly successful.
She started the Zero Tillage of wheat 2 years back and today she is not only cultivating wheat but also Paddy, Jute. She has also created a Mat Seedling factory with other women SHG members. They are now running an agri enterprise. The proudest moment for her is to Gift Her Husband a Motorbike from the earnings through farming. She has also adopted digital technology for farming.
Hosneara Bibi is a shining example of women who is leading other women into farming and showing that they also can independently run their own agri enterprise.
She needs a Paddy Transplanter which costs Rs 3Lacs whereby her group of women SHG members will be able to get more business and earn more profits
